Physiological benefits of being small in a changing world: responses of Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) to an acute thermal challenge and a simulated capture event. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Evidence is building to suggest that both chronic and acute warm temperature exposure, as well as other anthropogenic perturbations, may select for small adult fish within a species.

Suppression of excess oxygen for environmentally stable amorphous In-Si-O thin-film transistors [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 106, 192103 (2015), 2015
We discuss the environmental instability of amorphous indium oxide (InOx)-based thin-film transistors (TFTs) in terms of the excess oxygen in the semiconductor films. A comparison between amorphous InOx doped with low and high concentrations of oxygen binder (SiO2) showed that out-diffusion of oxygen molecules causes drastic changes in the film ...

Differences between genders in anaerobic capacity during a supramaximal effort

open access: yesMotriz: Revista de Educacao Fisica, 2019
Aim: The present study aimed to verify if there is a difference between genders in anaerobic capacity estimated by energetic equivalents of glycolytic and phosphagen pathways (AC[La-]+EPOCfast).

Order-disorder effect of A-site and oxygen-vacancy on magnetic and transport properties of Y1/4Sr3/4CoO3-delta [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 78 (2009) 064706, 2009
We have synthesized A-site ordered (AO)- and A-site disordered (AD)-Y1/4Sr3/4CoO3-delta (YSCO) with various oxygen deficiency delta, and have made a comparative study of the structural and physical properties. We have found that A-site (Y/Sr) ordering produces the unconventional oxygen-vacancy ordered (OO) structure, and that the magnetic and transport

Oxygen and Cation Ordered Perovskite, Ba2Y2Mn4O11 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A three-step route has been developed for the synthesis of a new oxygen-ordered double perovskite, BaYMn2O5.5 or Ba2Y2Mn4O11. (i) The A-site cation ordered perovskite, BaYMn2O5+d, is first synthesized at d ~ 0 by an oxygen-getter-controlled low-O2-pressure encapsulation technique utilizing FeO as the getter for excess oxygen.

1/8 anomaly in the excess-oxygen-doped La_1.8_Nd_0.2_Cu_1-y_Zn_y_O_4+δ_ [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 68, 024524 (2003), 2003
We have found the 1/8 anomaly, namely, the anomalous suppression of superconductivity at p (the hole concentration per Cu) = 1/8 in the excess-oxygen-doped La_1.8_Nd_0.2_Cu_1-y_Zn_y_O_4+\delta_, where the excess oxygen is doped by the electrochemical technique and the phase separation of the excess oxygen is suppressed.

High intensity, circuit-type integrated neuromuscular training alters energy balance and reduces body mass and fat in obese women: A 10-month training-detraining randomized controlled trial. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
This randomized controlled trial examined body mass, body composition, energy balance and performance responses of previously sedentary overweight/obese women to a circuit-type integrated neuromuscular training program with alternative modalities.

Optimal Retirement Time and Consumption with the Variation in Habitual Persistence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this paper,we study the individual's optimal retirement time and optimal consumption under habitual persistence. Because the individual feels equally satisfied with a lower habitual level and is more reluctant to change the habitual level after retirement, we assume that both the level and the sensitivity of the habitual consumption decline at the ...

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Multi-ingredient pre-workout supplementation changes energy system contribution and improves performance during high-intensity intermittent exercise in physically active individuals: a double-blind and placebo controlled study

open access: yesJournal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 2020
Background Nutritional ergogenic aids are commonly used to boost physiological adaptations to exercise and promote greater fitness gains. However, there is a paucity of data about multi-ingredient pre-workout supplementation (MIPS). Therefore, the aim of
