Cataractogenesis after Repeat Laser in situ Keratomileusis

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2012
There has been the unsubstantiated clinical impression that laser refractive surgery accelerates cataract development along with solid experimental data about the cataractogenic effects of excimer laser treatment.

Meta-analysis of the efficacy of adding platelet-rich plasma to 308-nm excimer laser for patients with vitiligo

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2022
Objective Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a novel treatment option for vitiligo. PRP has been reported to be effective in combination with 308-nm excimer laser therapy, but there is no consensus on their combination use.

Partial Phase‐Separation in the Initial Growth Stage of Exsolution‐Active SrTi0.95‐xNi0.05NbxO3‐δ Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phase separation emerges during the initial growth of heavily Ni‐ and Ni,Nb‐co‐doped STO thin films, leading to preferential accumulation of Ni and embedded NiOx nanoinclusions in thicker films. Nb co‐doping partially suppresses the ordering of these embedded structures, comprising about 20% of all Ni ions.

Flexoelectric Suppression of Interfacial Carrier Loss in BaTiO3 Thin‐Film Bulk Photovoltaic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In single‐crystalline BaTiO3 thin films, flexoelectric strain gradients strongly enhance photocurrent by suppressing interfacial carrier loss. Loading experiments reveal a ∼35‐fold photocurrent increase with applied force. Self‐consistent electrostatic modeling shows that strain gradients reshape the interfacial potential landscape, strengthen local ...

Controlled biopolymer roughness induced by plasma and excimer laser treatment

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2013
A new method for biopolymer poly-L-lactic-acid (PLLA) surface nanostructuring with surface plasmon resonance appearance is proposed. The motivation of this work is to determine optimal conditions for rough or flat biopolymer surface which may find broad ...

Magnetoelectric BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 Thin‐Film Meshes for Neuronal Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We engineer an epitaxial BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 magnetoelectric mesh that overcomes boundary‐induced mechanical clamping. Progressively reducing the mechanical constraint, from substrate‐clamped to PDMS‐transferred and ultimately freestanding, enhances magnetic‐to‐electric transduction and strengthens magnetoelectric coupling.

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Light‐Absorbing‐Layer‐Free Flash Lamp Annealing for High‐Throughput Fabrication of All‐Solution‐Processed Oxide Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A flash lamp annealing strategy using a mullite chuck enables rapid conversion of sol–gels to metal oxides on silicon and ultra‐thin glass without extra light‐absorbing layers. Direct light absorption initiates the transformation, and the low thermal conductivity of mullite promotes heat accumulation.
