Harmonic chirp imaging method for ultrasound contrast agent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Coded excitation is currently used in medical ultrasound to increase signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and penetration depth. We propose a chirp excitation method\ud for contrast agents using the second harmonic component of the response.

Chirp excitation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance, 2017
The paper describes the design of broadband chirp excitation pulses in NMR. We first develop a three stage model for understanding chirp excitation in NMR. We then show how a chirp $ $ pulse can be used to refocus the phase of the chirp excitation pulse. The resulting magnetization still has some phase dispersion in it.

Layer Specific Development of Neocortical Pyramidal to Fast Spiking Cells Synapses.

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2016
All cortical neurons are engaged in inhibitory feedback loops which ensure excitation-inhibition balance and are key elements for the development of coherent network activity.

Excitation Spectrum in the Friedberg-Lee Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The excitation spectrum of the nucleon with the spin 1/2 is examined by using the Friedberg-Lee model containing the constituent quark and the scalar meson. An appropriate way of quantization for the non-linear meson field is employed by taking account

Transform-Limited-Pulse Representation of Excitation with Natural Incoherent Light [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the natural excitation of molecular systems, applicable to, for example, photosynthetic light-harvesting complexes, by natural incoherent light.

Plasticity during Sleep Is Linked to Specific Regulation of Cortical Circuit Activity

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2017
Sleep is thought to be involved in the regulation of synaptic plasticity in two ways: by enhancing local plastic processes underlying the consolidation of specific memories and by supporting global synaptic homeostasis.

THE EXCITEMENT OF DISCOVERY [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Biochemistry, 2004
I had the good luck to start research at the dawn of molecular biology when it was possible to ask fundamental questions about the nature of the nucleic acids and how information is transferred in living systems. The search for answers led me into many different areas, often with the question of how molecular structure leads to biological function ...

Roper Excitation in Alpha-Proton Scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We study the Roper excitation in the $(\alpha,\alpha')$ reaction. We consider all processes which may be relevant in the Roper excitation region, namely, Roper excitation in the target, Roper excitation in the projectile, and double $\Delta$ excitation ...

Momentum-resolved charge excitations in high-Tc cuprates studied by resonant inelastic x-ray scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report a Cu K-edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) study of high-Tc cuprates. Momentum-resolved charge excitations in the CuO2 plane are examined from parent Mott insulators to carrier-doped superconductors.

Excited by fasting? NO [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2014
Nitric oxide (NO) has multiple effects within the gastrointestinal (GI) system, including modulation of GI motility, mucosal function, inflammation and blood flow, as well as the excitability and responsiveness of vagal sensory afferents as well as vagal efferents. In this issue of The Journal of Physiology Kentish et al.
