Exergetic efficiency as a basis for durability analysis and prognosis

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2011
Abstract The present paper provides a thermodynamic foundation and interpretation of the concept of exergetic efficiency. The interpretation focuses on solid oxide fuel cell behavior, specifically the impedance of SOFCs as an indicator of exergetic efficiency.

Exergetic efficiency of comminution of solid substances

Fuel, 1984
Abstract Based on literature data, a short description of a method for determining the internal energy increase of material due to enlarging its surface area in a comminution process, is given. An exergy balance of the comminution of a solid substance, has been discussed.

Exergetic efficiency optimization for real regenerated air refrigerators

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2011
Abstract On the basis of the exergetic analysis, the performance analysis and optimization is carried out for irreversible regenerated air refrigerators by taking exergetic efficiency as the optimization objective using thermodynamic optimization in this paper.

Exergetic efficiency optimization of a refrigeration system with multi-irreversibilities

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2006
Exergetic efficiency optimization has been carried out for a refrigeration system with multi-irreversibilities, including finite-rate heat transfer, internal dissipation of the working fluid and heat leak between the heat reservoirs. The exergetic efficiency is defined as the ratio of the rate of exergy output to the rate of exergy input in the ...

Exergetic efficiency optimization for an irreversible Brayton refrigeration cycle

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2005
Abstract Exergetic efficiency optimization that combines exergy concept and finite-time thermodynamic theory has been carried out for an irreversible Brayton refrigeration cycle. Multi-irreversibilities considered in the system include finite rate heat transfer, internal dissipation of the working fluid and heat leak between heat reservoirs ...

Exergetic efficiency of NF, RO and EDR desalination plants

Desalination, 2016
Abstract Exergetic analysis of a 2250 gpm brackish water desalination plant in California was performed using its operational data. The plant contains nanofiltration, reverse osmosis and electrodialysis reversal units subject to the same source water. The correct definition of exergetic efficiency for such systems was discussed.

Investigation of Exergetic Efficiency and Thermodynamic Parameters of the Salihli Geothermal District Heating System

open access: yesASME 2007 Energy Sustainability Conference, 2007
This study investigates thermodynamic parameters and exergetic efficiency of the Salihli geothermal district heating system (SGDHS) in Manisa, Turkey for 2005/2006 heating season. The thermodynamic parameters considered are as follows: (i) fuel depletion rate, (ii) relative irreversibility, (iii) productivity lack, and (iv) exergetic factor.

A critical review of definitions for exergetic efficiency in reverse osmosis desalination plants

open access: yesEnergy, 2017
Different approaches for formulating exergetic efficiency in desalination plants are suggested in literature. In this work these formulations, applied to the reverse osmosis technology, are compared and critically reviewed.

The exergetic efficiency as a performance evaluation tool in reverse osmosis desalination plants in operation

open access: yesDesalination, 2017
Exergetic efficiency characterizes the performance of a system or a system component from the second-law of Thermodynamics viewpoint. Although this parameter can be used in the comparison of the operation of similar components working under similar ...

Experimental investigation of the exergetic efficiency of air-heating flat-plate solar collector with distorted plates

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management, 1994
In order to investigate the effects of new developments of solar collector types on the exergetic efficiency of a solar collector with distorted plates (nonparallel plates), an experimental set up was constructed.
