An optimization approach for improving the exergetic efficiency in mesoscale combustor

Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2020
Abstract The optimum designs of combustor are traditionally based on trial and error method. In this paper, we propose a systematic optimization method for the optimum design of this kind of reactor. The optimization procedure is introduced by taking a premixed methane/air combustion as an illustrating example.

A comparative thermodynamic analysis on different exergetic efficiency methods for a solar photovoltaic module

open access: yesInternational Journal of Exergy, 2017
In this paper, a comparative study on the different exergetic performance of a solar photovoltaic (PV) module is presented. The exergetic efficiency of the PV module was obtained as functions of environmental, operational and design parameters, and ...

Exergetic efficiency optimization of a thermoacoustic cooler

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2007
A heat transfer model with a complex exponent between a thermoacoustic cooler and its surrounding heat reservoirs is established in the current paper. Both the real part and the imaginary part of the heat transfer exponent strongly affect the optimal performance of the cooler.

Exergetic Efficiencies and the Exergy Content of Terrestrial Solar Radiation

Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 2004
In the field of solar engineering the practical performance of solar energy conversion devices is generally evaluated strictly on an energy (first law) basis. However, the second law of thermodynamics determines the maximum work potential or exergy content of radiative fluxes independent of any conceptual device.

Exergetic efficiency of ATP production in neuronal glucose metabolism

International Journal of Exergy, 2013
The exergetic efficiency of ATP production in the brain is assessed using two competing models: 1) the classical model, where both neuron and the astrocyte metabolise glucose; 2) the astrocyte–neuron lactate shuttle hypothesis (ANLSH), where astrocytes metabolise glucose to lactate, then shuttle it to the neuron for aerobic respiration. Exergy analyses

A Software for the Calculation of the Exergetic Efficiency in Distillation Columns

2009
Abstract Many processes in chemical industries consume a lot of energy and often operate inefficiently. This implies high operation costs, which can be reduced through improvements in the use of energy in the process. Distillation is an important unit operation that is widely used in industry and requires an excessive energy demand.

Thermodynamic assessment of cities applying exergetic efficiency as evaluation index

Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, 2022
Abstract Thermodynamic assessment of cities is presented based on the classic concept of cities. Energetic analysis of cities is a challenging task, due to the lack of a concise, general thermodynamic parameter to evaluate energetic output streams that is applicable to every city.

Exergetic efficiency of basin type solar still

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
Simplicity of solar distillation system makes it very attractive, but the yield as well as the thermal efficiency is very low. Different types of absorbing materials e.g. black ink, black dye solution in basin water and black toner on water surface were used to evaluate their effect on the yield.

Evaluation of the effects of fuel and combustion-related processes on exergetic efficiency

Fuel, 2011
Abstract The fuel used in combustion applications has significant influence on irreversibility generation and hence the exergetic efficiency of the system. This work discusses a method of estimating the availability destructions and exergetic efficiencies of combustion for different classes of fuels viz. hydrogen, hydrocarbons, alcohols and biodiesel
