pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Effect of drain pipes on seepage and slope stability through a zoned earth dam

open access: yesOpen Engineering
Earth dams must be supplied with seepage control devices to prevent piping and sloughing. One such device used for this purpose is the so-called drain pipe.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Analytical determination of seeping soil slopes of a constant exit gradient

open access: yes, 2020
Soil slopes satisfying the condition of a constant exit gradient (constant Darcian velocity) and the seepage face (isobaricity) condition are found by complex analysis.

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Effect of Two Sheet Piles In Double Soil Layers on Seepage Properties Under Hydraulic Structure Using SEEP/W Program

open access: yesمجلة النهرين للعلوم الهندسية, 2017
This paper is intended to study the effect of using upstream and downstream sheet pile in double soil layer on the seepage, uplift pressure exit gradient at toe of hydraulic structure using computer program SEEP/W software.

Numerical and experimental study on extrusion of ZK60 Mg alloy using billet with temperature gradient

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
The adoption of high ram velocity is beneficial to enhance the production efficiency of the extrusion process, while it can cause an obvious temperature rise, resulting in rapid grain growth and even over-burning.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Emittance compensation of compact superconducting guns and booster linac system

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2006
We discuss the mechanics of emittance compensation for a compact superconducting rf gun with a solenoid, a drift space, and a linac system, and give general rules for designing such a system.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
