Optimal Location of Exit Doors for Efficient Evacuation of Crowds at Gathering Places

open access: yesAxioms, 2022
This work deals with the optimal design for the location of the exit doors at meeting places (such as sports centers, public squares, street markets, transport stations, etc.) to guarantee a safer emergency evacuation in events of a sporting, social ...

Focusing a fountain of neutral cesium atoms with an electrostatic lens triplet

open access: yes, 2006
An electrostatic lens with three focusing elements in an alternating-gradient configuration is used to focus a fountain of cesium atoms in their ground (strong-field-seeking) state.

Linear Hamilton Jacobi Bellman Equations in High Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Hamilton Jacobi Bellman Equation (HJB) provides the globally optimal solution to large classes of control problems. Unfortunately, this generality comes at a price, the calculation of such solutions is typically intractible for systems with more than

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Effect of Two Sheet Piles In Double Soil Layers on Seepage Properties Under Hydraulic Structure Using SEEP/W Program

open access: yesمجلة النهرين للعلوم الهندسية, 2017
This paper is intended to study the effect of using upstream and downstream sheet pile in double soil layer on the seepage, uplift pressure exit gradient at toe of hydraulic structure using computer program SEEP/W software.

Effect of drain pipes on seepage and slope stability through a zoned earth dam

open access: yesOpen Engineering
Earth dams must be supplied with seepage control devices to prevent piping and sloughing. One such device used for this purpose is the so-called drain pipe.

Effect of Intermediate Sheet Piles in Non-Homogenous Soil on Seepage Properties Under Hydraulic Structure Using SEEP/W Program

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2017
The seepage through a permeable soil under hydraulic structure exerts uplift pressure and may carry soil particles there by leads to piping. This paper concerns to study the effect of using intermediate sheet pile under the apron of hydraulic structure ...

Performance Assessment of Shirin Earth Dam in Iraq Under Various Operational Conditions

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2022
Proper dam management should be ensured regularly to avoid breaches and failure. In this study, the finite element method was used to analyse the stability of the Shirin earthen dam under various conditions. The necessary laboratory tests for soils used

Focusing of atoms with strongly confined light potentials

open access: yes, 2002
Focusing of atoms with light potentials is studied. In particular, we consider strongly confined, cylindrical symmetric potential, and demonstrate their applications in both red and blue-detuned focusing of atoms.
