Age‐related clinical heterogeneity and peripheral T cell profile alterations in primary Sjögren's disease: A retrospective study of 5778 patients

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
This large‐scale retrospective study of 5778 primary Sjögren's disease (SjD) patients, stratified by diagnostic age, defines a distinct clinical and immunological profile for early‐diagnosed (<45 years) disease. We identified early diagnosis as an independent risk factor for hypergammaglobulinemia and interstitial lung disease, underpinned by a ...

POST-EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT OF INTRAMANDIBULAR GLANDS OF FRIESELLA SCHROTTKYI (FRIESE, 1900) (HYMENOPTERA: APIDAE) WORKERS

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia
Exocrine glands play important role in social organization of insects, such as caste and inter-caste differentiation. Due their functional and structural plasticity, morphological studies on such glands contribute to better understanding the biology of ...

The evolving role of regulatory T cells in Sjögren's disease pathogenesis and the promise of Treg‐based therapies: A comprehensive review

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Graphical Abstract The evolving role of regulatory T cells in primary Sjögren's disease pathogenesis and the promise of Treg‐based therapies. Abstract Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disorder characterised by exocrine gland dysfunction and diverse systemic manifestations.

Environmental factors associated with nesting habits and age shape the composition and connection between skin and uropygial gland microbiomes of birds

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study provides new insights into how ecological conditions influence the evolution of host‐associated symbiotic communities and their functional roles. The findings suggest that pathogen pressures linked to nesting habits in birds shape bacterial communities of the uropygial gland, and their connection with the skin microbiome, where the ...

Ozone‐driven degradation of sex pheromone in Plutella xylostella: Implications for reproductive communication and mating success

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we examined whether realistic ozone concentrations can interfere with sexual communication in the insect pest Plutella xylostella, the diamondback moth. Ozone exposure caused a degradation of pheromone components, leading to significant changes in blend composition and component ratios.

Pre‐operative three‐dimensional face scans for predicting difficult facemask ventilation: a prospective development study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Facemask ventilation is a key airway management skill but predicting difficulty can be challenging. Pre‐operative three‐dimensional face scanning may have diagnostic value. We aimed to identify interpretable facial shape features and to quantify their value for predicting difficult facemask ventilation.

Prospective development and validation of an objective classification for difficult facemask ventilation: the MASCAN score

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Difficult facemask ventilation is an entity that lacks a robust definition, leading to inconsistent identification in clinical practice and research. The aim of this study was to develop and validate an objective classification and numeric score for difficult facemask ventilation. Methods Four hundred patients who required tracheal

The metalloproteinase ADAM17 promotes acute lung inflammatory responses during pancreatitis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a multifactorial upper gastrointestinal inflammatory disorder that in severe cases (~20% of all AP) is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality, the latter coincident with multiorgan dysfunction, particularly acute lung injury (ALI).

Sternal Exocrine Glands in Neotropical Social Wasps

open access: yes, 2020
A great diversity of exocrine glands is found in social insects. The main social function of exocrine glands is the production of pheromones, which are related to the maintenance of social organization of the colony, as interactions of dominance, maintenance of queen status, recruitment for food, search for nesting sites, defense, and reproductive ...

Clinical Implications and Research Progress of Salivary Biomarkers for Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Similar to blood, saliva contains a broad range of biomarkers and may offer a non‐invasive, repeatable specimen for endocrine and metabolic assessment. This review aims to synthesise and evaluate recent advances in the clinical translation of salivary biomarkers, while providing a critical assessment of the diagnostic reliability and ...
