Ontogeny of pancreatic exocrine function. [PDF]
Exocrine pancreatic proteolytic activity, determined by serial measurement of faecal chymotrypsin concentration, was investigated in 21 preterm infants (23-32 weeks' gestation) during the first 28 days of life. The overall chymotrypsin concentration range was similar to that already described in term infants showing that pancreatic chymotrypsin ...

Background: Prenatal growth retardation may increase the risk of later chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes; however, long-term effects of wasting malnutrition in childhood or adulthood are less studied.

Absence of diabetes and pancreatic exocrine dysfunction in a transgenic model of carboxyl-ester lipase-MODY (maturity-onset diabetes of the young). [PDF]
CEL-MODY is a monogenic form of diabetes with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency caused by mutations in CARBOXYL-ESTER LIPASE (CEL). The pathogenic processes underlying CEL-MODY are poorly understood, and the global knockout mouse model of the CEL gene ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Polystyrene nanoplastics disrupt pancreatic immune–endocrine homeostasis by promoting MHC‐I‐associated dendritic cell activation and inflammatory crosstalk with β cells. This immune remodeling drives β‐cell dedifferentiation, impairs insulin secretion, and aggravates metabolic dysfunction, revealing a previously unrecognized immunometabolic mechanism ...

The Effect of Bariatric Surgery on Exocrine Pancreatic Function
After bariatric surgery (BS), patients might suffer from nutrient maldigestion, malabsorption, and vitamin deficiencies. In this study, our aim was to assess pancreatic functions after BS using fecal elastase-1 assay (FE-1).Sixty patients (21M) undergoing BS and 20 (6M) healthy controls were included into the study.

This review examines the potential of in vivo direct reprogramming in regenerative medicine for functional tissue restoration, highlighting the role of tissue‐resident cues in generating functionally mature reprogrammed cells from lineage‐related cells. It contains a discussion on mechanisms, reprogramming factors, delivery approaches, and applications

During pancreatitis, IL‐1α is released from necrotic acinar cells. In response to IL‐1α, pancreatic fibroblasts release chemokines and cytokines that regulate the recruitment of immune cells to the damaged organ. Furthermore, IL‐1α primes fibroblasts, resulting in increased tissue fibrosis during chronic pancreatitis.

ABSTRACT Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) has recently gained increasing attention as a potential cause of postoperative gastrointestinal symptoms following gastrointestinal cancer surgery. Surgical procedures can disrupt normal gastrointestinal physiology through anatomical reconstruction, impaired motility, reduced gastric acid secretion,
