Scaling K2. VI. Reduced Small-planet Occurrence in High-galactic-amplitude Stars

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
In this study, we performed a homogeneous analysis of the planets around FGK dwarf stars observed by the Kepler and K2 missions, providing spectroscopic parameters for 310 K2 targets —including 239 Scaling K2 hosts—observed with Keck/HIRES.

Design Considerations for Visualization Transitions of 3D Spatial Data in Hybrid AR‐Desktop Environments

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We present design considerations for animated transitions of the appearance of 3D spatial datasets in a hybrid Augmented Reality‐desktop context. Such hybrid interfaces combine both traditional and immersive displays to facilitate the exploration of 2D and 3D data representations in the environment in which they are best displayed.

Soot Planets Instead of Water Worlds

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Some low-density exoplanets are thought to be water-rich worlds that formed beyond the snow line of their protoplanetary disk, possibly accreting coequal portions of rock and water.

Elevated Eccentricities in the Radius Valley Hint at Water-rich Mini-Neptunes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
While recent planet-formation models broadly reproduce the observed population of super-Earths and mini-Neptunes, as well as the bimodal radius distribution (the “radius valley”), it remains unclear whether all these planets share a common rocky ...

Leveraging Multimodal Large Language Models to Analyse Student Exploration Behaviours in Educational Game Environments

open access: yesJournal of Computer Assisted Learning, Volume 42, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Video data provides rich opportunities to examine student behaviour in game‐based learning environments, capturing not only observable actions but also subtle indicators of cognitive engagement. However, traditional video analysis is labor‐intensive, and current applications of AI to this task are limited by models trained on ...

Formation of Ultra-short-period Planets in Hot Jupiter Systems: Application to WASP-47

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The WASP-47 system is notable as the first known system hosting both inner and outer low-mass planetary companions around a hot Jupiter, with an ultra-short-period (USP) planet as the innermost planetary companion.

Mercury's Eccentric Orbit as a Driver of Significant “Seasonal” Change in Upstream Solar Wind Forcing

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Mercury experiences the most intense and variable solar wind (SW) conditions in the solar system due to its close, eccentric orbit about the Sun. In addition to variation driven by coronal source and solar cycle, the SW arriving at Mercury varies periodically as the planet's heliocentric distance changes by over 50% per orbit.

Impacting Atmospheres: How Late-stage Pollution Alters Exoplanet Composition

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The atmospheric composition of exoplanets is often considered as a probe of the planet’s formation conditions. How exactly the initial chemical memory may be altered from the birth to the final state of the planet, however, remains unknown.

Hot Jupiters Have Giant Companions: Evidence for Coplanar High-eccentricity Migration

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
This study considers the characteristics of planetary systems with giant planets based on a population-level analysis of the California Legacy Survey planet catalog. We identified three characteristics common to hot Jupiters (HJs).

Predicting Nitrogen Isotope Fractionation in Nitrate Deposition on Early Mars

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Noachian and early Hesperian Mars were likely warm and wet, with an atmosphere abundant in molecular nitrogen. The recent discovery of nitrate deposits in the Yellowknife Bay mudstones at Gale Crater confirm the existence of nitrogen oxides (NOX) on Noachian Mars. The processes responsible for the production of these nitrates would fractionate
