A visual semiotic analysis of multicultural values in an Indonesian English textbook

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics, 2019
In the context of the role of culture in language learning, many textbook analysts have so far investigated the representations of cultures in EFL textbooks.

Markov Partitions for Expanding Maps of the Circle [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1991
We study Markov partitions for orientation-preserving expanding maps of the circle whose rectangles are connected. Up to a reordering of basis elements, the class of induced matrices arising for such partitions is characterized. Then the study focuses on the subclass of partitions for which each boundary set is a periodic orbit.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Management Strategy of BCCT Model Implementation in Improving the Quality of Early Childhood Learning: Case Study in Tasikmalaya

open access: yesEdukasia
Beyond Center and Circle Time (BCCT) is a student-centered learning approach, namely learning activities are centered on the play center and activities in a circle.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Families of strongly annular functions: linear structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A function f holomorphic in the unit disk D is called strongly annular if there exists a sequence of concentric circles in D expanding out to the unit circle such that f goes to infinity as |z| goes to 1 through these circles.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Infinite dimensional SRB measures

open access: yes, 1995
We review the basic steps leading to the construction of a Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measure for an infinite lattice of weakly coupled expanding circle maps, and we show that this measure has exponential decay of space-time correlations.
