Nonadditivity of Subjective Expectations over Different Time Intervals

open access: yesManagement Science, 2022
We examine the additivity of expectations over different time intervals. For example, when asked about 10-year stock price growth, survey respondents report an expected change that is not equal to, but closer to zero than, the sum of their expectations over two shorter time intervals that cover the same 10 years.

Assessing standardized contrast effects in ANCOVA: Confidence intervals, precision evaluations, and sample size requirements.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Standardized effect sizes and confidence intervals are useful statistical assessments for comparing results across different studies when measurement units are not directly comparable.

Parameter Interval Estimation of System Reliability for Repairable Multistate Series-Parallel System with Fuzzy Data

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
The purpose of this paper is to create an interval estimation of the fuzzy system reliability for the repairable multistate series–parallel system (RMSS). Two-sided fuzzy confidence interval for the fuzzy system reliability is constructed.

Fuzzy TOPSIS Reinvented: Retaining Linguistic Information Through Interval-Valued Analysis

open access: yesMathematics
In real-world decision-making situations, experts often rely on subjective and imprecise judgments, frequently expressed using linguistic terms. While fuzzy logic offers a valuable tool to capture and process such uncertainty, traditional methods often ...

Asymptotic Expected Number of Passages of a Random Walk Through an Interval [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Probability, 2013
In this note we find a new result concerning the asymptotic expected number of passages of a finite or infinite interval (x,x+h) as x→∞ for a random walk with increments having a positive expected value. If the increments are distributed like X then the limit for 0<h<∞ turns out to have the form Emin(|X|,h)/EX, which unexpectedly is independent ...

Trapezoidal operator preserving the expected interval and the support of fuzzy numbers

open access: yesJournal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory, 2011
The problem to find the trapezoidal fuzzy number which preserves the expected interval and the support of a given fuzzy number is discussed. Properties of this new trapezoidal approximation operator are studied.

Human hippocampal pre-activation predicts behavior

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The response to an upcoming salient event is accelerated when the event is expected given the preceding events – i.e. a temporal context effect. For example, naming a picture following a strongly constraining temporal context is faster than naming a ...

Asymptotic confidence interval for the coefficient of variation of Poisson distribution: a simulation study [PDF]

open access: yesMaejo International Journal of Science and Technology, 2010
A new asymptotic confidence interval constructed by using a confidence intervalfor the Poisson mean is proposed for the coefficient of variation of the Poisson distribution. The following confidence intervals are considered: McKay’s confidence interval ...

On solving a Lexicographic Optimization Problem with interval coefficients and alternative criteria

open access: yesНауковий вісник Ужгородського університету. Серія: Математика і інформатика, 2019
In this paper, a lexicographic multicriteria optimization problem with interval coefficients is considered. Criteria are ranked in strictly ranked subordination and may contain interval coefficients.
