Application of Design Simulation and Experimental Design Methodologies to the Study of Coronary Stent Designs [PDF]

open access: yesComputer-Aided Design and Applications, 2012
AbstractDesign Simulation and Experimental Design are widely used techniques in engineering design studies. Design simulation is useful in the virtual testing of new designs without having to spend resources on creating actual prototypes. Experimental Design is useful in analyzing relationships between various parameters of a design and their impact on

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Modeling the early stages of a user-centered process in architectural design through adaptation of the methodologies of New Product Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In order to reach a degree of quality in architectural buildings that is likely to lead to user satisfaction, architectural design relies on integrating user-related information even before generation of building concepts.

A rigorous evaluation of crossover and mutation in genetic programming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The role of crossover and mutation in Genetic Programming (GP) has been the subject of much debate since the emergence of the field. In this paper, we contribute new empirical evidence to this argument using a rigorous and principled experimental method ...

Design Methodology and Experimental Verification of a Novel Orifice Plate Rectifier

open access: yesFluids
Optimizing the rectification and pressure loss controlled by the aperture structure is challenging, with particular attention paid to the problem of precisely modeling the rectification process of multilayer wire mesh in pulse tube cryocoolers. This work

HIGH HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE EXTRACTION OF ANTIOXIDANTS FROM MORINDA CITRIFOLIA FRUIT – PROCESS PARAMETERS OPTIMIZATION [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Science and Technology, 2006
A modified version of high hydrostatic pressure extraction has been performed for extraction of antioxidants from M. citrifolia fruit at 5, 15, 25 bar and temperature 30° to 70°C for time duration 1, 2, 4 and 6 hours.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

A Comparison of Design Methodologies for Journal Bearings under Pulsatile Loads

open access: yes, 2011
The paper expands the work by Kinnear and Weston[1] on squeeze film bearing design to the general case and compares the revised methodology with classical bearing design[2,3,4] and hybrid bearing design[5].
