Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Engraftment of human mesenchymal stem cells in a severely immunodeficient mouse

open access: yesInflammation and Regeneration
The transplantation of human mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (hMSCs) has potential as a curative and permanent therapy for congenital skeletal diseases. However, the self-renewal and differentiation capacities of hMSCs markedly vary.

Experimental Models for Psoriasis

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1990
Evidence suggests that inherent in skin of psoriatic subjects are cells, architectural structures, and/or mediators, which are, at a minimum, responsible for its hyperproliferative epidermis. An objective of our laboratory has been to establish an in vitro definition of this inherent aberration.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Intestinal Gastrin/CCKBR Axis Protects against Type 2 Diabetes by Reducing Intestinal Glucose Absorption through the PI3K/Akt/eIF4B Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The Gastrin/CCKBR axis is essential for inhibiting intestinal sodium absorption, but its effects on intestinal glucose metabolism remain elusive. This study aims to determine the role of intestinal Gastrin/CCKBR on glucose absorption in the development ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Exposure to diverse airborne bacterial communities following Klebsiella pneumoniae infection elicits distinct host response mechanisms in mice

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Background: Air harbors diverse microorganisms. However, the influence of airborne microbial communities on the recovery phase of pneumonia patients remains inadequately explored.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Development of a DNA damage assay system using stable human hepatocytes

open access: yesGenes and Environment
Background Overcoming species differences in metabolism between humans and animals remains a critical challenge in toxicological studies. Rat liver S9 fraction has long been the gold standard for exogenous metabolic activation in in vitro genotoxicity ...
