Experimental Verification of a Negative Index of Refraction
Science, 2001We present experimental scattering data at microwave frequencies on a structured metamaterial that exhibits a frequency band where the effective index of refraction ( n ) is negative. The material consists of a two-dimensional array of repeated unit cells of copper strips and split ring resonators on interlocking ...

Experimental Verification of Carrier Multiplication in Graphene
Nano Letters, 2014We report on the first direct experimental observation of carrier multiplication in graphene reaching a multiplication factor of up to 2 and persisting on a picoseconds time scale. Exploiting multicolor pump-probe measurement techniques, the excited nonequilibrium carrier distribution is retrieved on an ultrafast time scale. This provides access to the

Experimental verification of a strategy for impact control
Proceedings. 1991 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002The authors present experimental results from a strategy for stable hard-on-hard impacts of a robot manipulator, and show how this method fits into the framework of force control. Previously proposed methods of impact control are reviewed, and their inadequacies are revealed. A fourth-order model of an arm/sensor/environment system is reviewed.

Verification of chaotic behavior in an experimental loudspeaker
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008The dynamics of an experimental electrodynamic loudspeaker is studied by using the tools of chaos theory and time series analysis. Delay time, embedding dimension, fractal dimension, and other empirical quantities are determined from experimental data.

On the Experimental Verification of the Wheeler–DeWitt Equation
Modern Physics Letters A, 1997The Wheeler–DeWitt equation ℋΨ=0 for the wave function of the Universe Ψ can be written, in the Friedmann space–time (mini-superspace approximation) [Formula: see text], as the Schrödinger equation [Formula: see text], where ξ≡ dα/dt. The meaning of the pseudo-Hamiltonian [Formula: see text], which reduces to the potential V at low energies, is ...

Aeroservoelastic Design Optimization with Experimental Verification
Journal of Aircraft, 2000A demonstration of integrated design optimization of an aeroservoelastic system was presented. It was shown that the simultaneous design of structural and control system required a two-step proce ...
