Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

On explicit forms for ergodicity coefficients

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 1993
Suppose \(\| \cdot \|\) is any vector norm on row vectors constituting \(\mathbb{R}^ n\), and \(S_ n\) \((n \geq 2)\) the set of all \(n \times n\) stochastic matrices. The definition of an ergodicity coefficient \(\tau\) for \(P=\{p_{ij}\}\), \(P \in S_ n\) with respect to the norm \(\| \cdot \|\) is \(\tau(P)=\sup \{\| {\underset \sim x}^ T P ...

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

On the explicit Hermitian solutions of the continuous‐time algebraic Riccati matrix equation for controllable systems

open access: yesIET Control Theory & Applications
This paper proposes explicit solutions for the algebraic Riccati matrix equation. For single‐input systems in controllable canonical form, the explicit Hermitian solutions of the non‐homogeneous Riccati equation are obtained using the entries of the ...

A Formulation of an Evolution Equation Governing Magnetic Lines

open access: yesJournal of Optimization, Differential Equations and Their Applications, 2018
It is shown that `a free function' in the evolution equation of Hornig & Schindler for the magnetic induction (Physics of Plasmas, 3 (3), 781 - 791) has a unique representation, obtained in an explicit form.
