Symmetry breaking exhibition by magnetic field induced explicit circular dichroism [PDF]

open access: green, 2017
In this letter we demonstrate universal symmetry breaking by means of magnetically induced circular dichroism. Magnetic field induces forbidden at zero field atomic transitions between $ F = \pm2$ hyperfine levels. In a particular range of magnetic field, intensities of these transitions experience significant enhancement.

One-loop fermion determinant with explicit chiral symmetry breaking [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2000
We use a proper-time regularization to define the one-loop fermion determinant for the case in which explicit chiral symmetry breaking takes place. We show how to obtain the polynomial by which the standard definition of lndetD needs to be modified in order to arrive at the fermion determinant whose transformation properties are consistent with the ...

Diagnosing strong-to-weak symmetry breaking via Wightman correlators

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Symmetry plays a fundamental role in quantum many-body physics, and a central concept is spontaneous symmetry breaking. Recent developments highlight new symmetry-breaking patterns known as strong-to-weak spontaneous symmetry breaking, characterized by ...

Non-conformal entanglement entropy

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We explore the behaviour of renormalized entanglement entropy in a variety of holographic models: non-conformal branes; the Witten model for QCD; UV conformal RG flows driven by explicit and spontaneous symmetry breaking and Schrödinger geometries ...

On a mechanism for explicit replica symmetry breaking

open access: greenJournal de Physique, 1989
We show that explicit replica symmetry breaking can be implemented by averaging over a small random magnetic field the partition function to an appropriate power. These results give a new insight on the physical meaning of replica symmetry breaking and a new way to compute the spin glass order parameter q (x).

Formation of defects associated with both spontaneous and explicit symmetry breaking [PDF]

open access: hybridPhysical Review D
We discuss formation of cosmic strings associated with a spontaneously broken U(1) symmetry by performing classical field-theoretical simulations. An original U(1) symmetry is explicitly broken down to its subgroup ZN even before spontaneous breaking takes place.

A unified description of translational symmetry breaking in holography [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We provide a complete and unified description of translational symmetry breaking in a simple holographic model. In particular, we focus on the distinction and the interplay between explicit and spontaneous breaking.

Axion dark matter with explicit Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking in the axiverse [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2023
It was shown that the required high quality of the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry can be a natural outcome of the multiple QCD axions model. In the axiverse, a hypothetical mass mixing between the QCD axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) can occur, which ...
