On a mechanism for explicit replica symmetry breaking
We show that explicit replica symmetry breaking can be implemented by averaging over a small random magnetic field the partition function to an appropriate power. These results give a new insight on the physical meaning of replica symmetry breaking and a new way to compute the spin glass order parameter q (x).

Decoupling confinement and chiral-symmetry breaking: An explicit model [PDF]
Using a covariant model of mesons developed previously, we obtain new numerical solutions for the light-quark sector, and show explicitly how the small mass of the pion emerges as a natural consequence of chiral-symmetry breaking. Then we generalize the model, and show how chiral-symmetry breaking and confinement could be realized through completely ...

Planck-Scale Effects on Global Symmetries: Cosmology of Pseudo-Goldstone Bosons [PDF]
We consider a model with a small explicit breaking of a global symmetry, as suggested by gravitational arguments. Our model has one scalar field transforming under a non-anomalous U(1) symmetry, and coupled lo matter and to gauge bosons.

Abundant Symmetry-Breaking Solutions of the Nonlocal Alice–Bob Benjamin–Ono System
The Benjamin–Ono equation is a useful model to describe the long internal gravity waves in deep stratified fluids. In this paper, the nonlocal Alice–Bob Benjamin–Ono system is induced via the parity and time-reversal symmetry reduction. By introducing an

The effective action of superrotation modes
Starting from an analysis of four-dimensional asymptotically flat gravity in first order formulation, we show that superrotation reparametrization modes are governed by an Alekseev-Shatashvili action on the celestial sphere.

Explicit Supersymmetry Breaking on Boundaries of Warped Extra Dimensions [PDF]
Explicit supersymmetry breaking is studied in higher dimensional theories by having boundaries respect only a subgroup of the bulk symmetry. If the boundary symmetry is the maximal subgroup allowed by the boundary conditions imposed on the fields, then ...

$$ \mu -\tau $$ μ-τ reflection symmetry embedded in minimal seesaw
We embed $$\mu -\tau $$ μ-τ reflection symmetry into the minimal seesaw formalism, where two right-handed neutrinos are added to the Standard Model of particle physics. Assuming that both the left- and right-handed neutrino fields transform under $$\mu -\

Dark matter from a complex scalar singlet: the role of dark CP and other discrete symmetries
We study the case of a pseudo-scalar dark matter candidate which emerges from a complex scalar singlet, charged under a global U(1) symmetry, which is broken both explicitly and spontaneously.

“Explicit versus dynamical” breaking of chiral symmetry
Abstract We study the explicit and dynamical breaking of chiral symmetry in the (2+1)-dimensional four-Fermi model. The model is renormalizable in the 1 N f expansion. We calculate the masses of the fermions and pseudo-Goldstone bosons in terms of the explicit breaking parameters.
