Exponential varieties [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, 2016
Exponential varieties arise from exponential families in statistics. These real algebraic varieties have strong positivity and convexity properties, familiar from toric varieties and their moment maps. Among them are varieties of inverses of symmetric matrices satisfying linear constraints. This class includes Gaussian graphical models.

Optimizing photoexcitation conditions for time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering experiments

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering (TR‐XSS) is a powerful technique to visualize how proteins change their structure in real time after light activation. Selecting the right laser photoexcitation conditions—fluence, excitation geometry, and sample refresh rate—is critical to maximize the experimental signal while avoiding unwanted side effects ...

The Exponentiated Kumaraswamy-Exponential Distribution

open access: yesBritish Journal of Applied Science & Technology, 2015
A new continuous distribution called exponentiated Kumaraswamy-exponential that extends the exponential distribution and some other distributions is proposed and studied. Several structural properties of the new distribution were investigated, including the moments, hazard function, mean deviations and Rényi entropy.

Correcting exponentiality test for binned earthquake magnitudes

open access: yesSeismica
Above the magnitude of completeness - the minimum threshold for which a 100% detection rate is assumed - earthquake magnitudes are typically modeled as a continuous exponential distribution.

ON THE EXPONENTIAL MEAN

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 1996
The author introduces the exponential mean \(W(x)=\exp\{(\prod^k_{n=1}\ln x_n)^{1/k}\}\) for \(k\geq 2\) and \(x=(x_1,\dots,x_k)\) with \(x_i\geq 1\) \((i=1,2,\dots,k)\). While \(W(x)\leq G(x)=\) geometric mean of \(x\), it is shown that \(f(x)=W(x)-H(x)\) can change the sign, where \(H(x)=\) harmonic mean of \(x\).

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

An application of modified systematic sampling in auto-correlated populations

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science
This study explores the efficiency of modified systematic sampling (MSS) in the context of auto-correlated populations. The MSS scheme is compared to linear systematic sampling (LSS), circular systematic sampling (CSS) and mixed random systematic ...

Decomposition of Postseismic Signals Following ≥Mw 6 Earthquakes on Sumatra Island Based on Sumatran GPS Array (SuGAr) Observations

open access: yesJournal of Geospatial Information Science and Engineering
Indonesia, located at the convergence of four major tectonic plates, experiences frequent large earthquakes, particularly in Sumatra, due to the subduction of the Indo-Australian Plate and the Sumatra Fault Zone (SFZ).

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions Are Associated With Trans‐Synaptic Degeneration of the Visual Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Retrograde trans‐synaptic degeneration (rTSD) from posterior visual pathway lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by hemi‐macular ganglion cell‐inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning and contralateral visual field loss.
