Random neighbour model for yielding

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce a model for yielding, inspired by fracture models and the failure of a sheared granular medium in which the applied shear is resisted by self-organized force chains.

On the relation between energy efficiency and spectral efficiency of multiple-antenna systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Motivated by the increasing interest in energy-efficient communication systems, the relation between energy efficiency (EE) and spectral efficiency (SE) for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems is investigated in this paper.

Grey prediction model of power load based on exponential smoothing improvement [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
Grey system theory has the advantages of needing little sample data and calculating no characteristic quantity; it is widely applied in power load prediction; but it has certain limitation the larger the data discretization degree is, the larger the gray scale is and the larger the influence on prediction precision is.

A data-driven method for dynamic load forecasting of scraper conveyer based on rough set and multilayered self-normalizing gated recurrent network

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2021
The dynamic load forecasting of scraper conveyer is one of the key problems that need to be solved in unmanned coal mining. The dynamic load forecasting system of scraper conveyer is a complex, multivariable, and nonlinear system, and there are coupling ...

Noninvasive assessment of inspiratory muscle neuromechanical coupling during inspiratory threshold loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Diaphragm neuromechanical coupling (NMC), which reflects the efficiency of conversion of neural activation to transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi), is increasingly recognized to be a useful clinical index of diaphragm function and respiratory mechanics in ...

A Matrix-Analytic Solution for Randomized Load Balancing Models with Phase-Type Service Times [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we provide a matrix-analytic solution for randomized load balancing models (also known as \emph{supermarket models}) with phase-type (PH) service times.

Crackling noise in three-point bending of heterogeneous materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We study the crackling noise emerging during single crack propagation in a specimen under three-point bending conditions. Computer simulations are carried out in the framework of a discrete element model where the specimen is discretized in terms of ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
