Farmer risk preferences: Does context matter?

open access: yesJournal of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, EarlyView.
Abstract As farmers adapt to changing climate, they modify practices to manage evolving production risk. Understanding farmers' risk attitudes is critical to predicting their decisions about climate change adaptation. This research empirically estimates utility functions to measure the risk preferences of Michigan corn‐soybean farmers.

The function $(\cosh\sqrt{at^2+b})$ is exponentially convex

open access: yes, 2015
Given positive numbers $a$ and $b$, the function $\sqrt{at^2+b}$ is exponentially convex function of $t$ on the whole real axis. Three proofs of this result are presented.

Precision Restoration to Minimize Soil Loss in a Watershed in the Atlantic Forest Domain

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Turvo River Watershed, located in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais and part of the Doce River Basin, faces serious problems of erosion and soil degradation, which compromise and reduce the quality of local water resources. Given this scenario, it is essential to implement environmental recovery strategies that prioritize the ...

Assessment of Soil Erosion Over Six Decades in a Long‐Term Experiment Using Fallout 137Cs and RUSLE: A South American Case Study

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil erosion remains a major global concern affecting agricultural productivity and land sustainability. This study investigates the magnitude and variability of soil erosion in a long‐term experiment (LTE) established in 1963 in Colonia, Uruguay, aiming to compare the performance of the 137Cs tracer technique and the RUSLE model across ...

An ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy system for studying real‐time pressure effects on enzyme activity

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Investigations of hydrostatic pressure effects on microbial enzymatic processing are challenging but critical for understanding element cycling in the world's oceans. In this study, we developed and tested a stainless‐steel pressure cell capable of withstanding up to 110 MPa of hydrostatic pressure (equivalent to ~ 11,000 m depth), featuring ...
