Migration as a means of population control [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
For more about the East-West Center, see http://www.eastwestcenter.org/That it makes a difference to ultimate population whether out-migrants are of fertile ages or not is well known.

Gestational hypothyroxinemia causes an inflammatory environment at maternal-fetal tissues and fetal brain with impaired hippocampal dendritic spine maturation in the offspring

open access: yesScientific Reports
Gestational hypothyroxinemia (HTX) is associated with cognitive impairments and autism traits in offspring. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

A Microenvironment‐Adaptive Scaffold Rejuvenates Peripheral Nerve Regeneration During Aging Via Dual Modulation of Ferroptotic Stimuli in Schwann Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
(i) Aging impairs peripheral nerve regeneration via its dual ferroptosis‐mediated pathologies in senescent schwann cells. (ii) The composite nerve conduit is a symbiosis niche integrating microenvironment‐responsive nanoparticles (Ga‐PTAs) and maxillofacial‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (Mmscs).

Macrophage PABPC4‐SPP1 Axis Orchestrates Immunosuppression in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the CRC microenvironment, macrophage PABPC4 binds to the 3′UTR of SPP1 mRNA to stabilize its expression, thereby sustaining M2‐like immunosuppressive macrophage polarization. Concurrently, this axis suppresses CD8+ T cell effector functions via CD44 signaling, collectively fostering an immunosuppressive niche that drives tumor progression.

Offspring exposure to Crohn's disease during pregnancy and association with milder psychiatric regulatory disturbances in childhood

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica
Introduction Prenatal exposure to inflammatory states has been suggested to influence offspring neurodevelopment. The aim was to investigate if offspring exposure to maternal Inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD), or specifically the IBD disorder Crohn's ...

Grtp1 Safeguards Against Paternal Reproductive Aging and Intergenerational Behavioral Deficits by Preserving Redox Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies that Grtp1 maintains germline redox homeostasis by interacting with PRDX1/4‐TXN to antagonize paternal reproductive aging. Growth hormone restores Grtp1 expression, rectifies aberrant sperm DNA methylation, and ameliorates intergenerational anxiety and social deficits, highlighting the GH‐GRTP1 axis as a promising intervention ...

TECTB Variants Reveal Tectorial Membrane Vulnerability in Dominant Non‐Syndromic Hearing Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TECTB is a non‐collagenous protein of the tectorial membrane – an extracellular matrix of the cochlea. This study identifies dominant missense variants in TECTB linked to human hereditary deafness in two unrelated families. Genetically engineered mice homozygous for one of the variants are profoundly deaf, whereas heterozygous mice have normal hearing ...

Disentangling population strategies of two cladocerans adapted to different ultraviolet regimes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2018
Zooplankton have evolved several mechanisms to deal with environmental threats, such as ultraviolet radiation (UVR), and in order to identify strategies inherent to organisms exposed to different UVR environments, we here examine life‐history traits of ...
