The Chemical and Products Database v4.0, an updated resource supporting chemical exposure evaluations

open access: yesScientific Data
Since the initial release of the Chemical and Products Database (CPDat) in 2018, the United States Environmental Protection Agency has added a considerable amount of chemical exposure-related information to the database and has expanded its schema to ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE) Serum Concentrations in Italian Women of Reproductive Age

open access: yesToxics
The evaluation of human exposure to environmental contaminants is a highly relevant topic for carrying out appropriate risk assessments and management. For this reason, although exposure assessment studies are continuously increasing, it is important to ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Preparation of montmorillonite/chitosan/γ-polyglutamic acid nanoparticles and evaluation of their adsorption and antibacterial performance

open access: yesScientific Reports
In this study, montmorillonite (MMT)/chitosan (CS)/γ-polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) nanoparticles were synthesized using MMT, CS, and γ-PGA as the matrix materials, with amino silane as the crosslinking agent.
