Computational superposition projector for extended depth of field and field of view

Optics Letters, 2013
This Letter describes a projection system with extended depth of field (DOF) and field of view (FOV). In the proposed system, an input image is projected with varying focusing distances and optical axis directions, and the projected images are superposed on a three-dimensional screen to realize a three-dimensionally space-invariant point spread ...

Depth of field extended scattering imaging by light field estimation

Optics Letters, 2018
Imaging through scattering media is challenging especially for three-dimensional scenarios. A lot of efforts have been made, but they suffer from tedious point spread function acquisition process or limited depth of field (DOF). In this Letter, a DOF extended scattering imaging method is proposed based on light field estimation.

Smart camera with extended depth of field

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
A smart camera is studied that combines the blurring logarithmic asphere lens and maximum entropy processing to extend the depth of field 10 times over that of a conventional lens and to provide near diffraction-limited performance. For this camera, a circularly symmetric logarithmic lens with radially varying focus length provides an image with ...

Integral imaging with extended depth of field

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
One of the main drawbacks on integral imaging systems is their limited depth of field. With the current state of sensor technology such limitation is imposed by the pixilated structure of cell detectors. So, depth of field only can be optimized by proper selection of system parameters. However, nowadays sensor technology experiments a fast development.

Optical microscopy with extended depth of field

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1983
Abstract A method is described that allows the depth of field in optical microscopy to be extended, in principle without limit, while high-resolution, diffraction-limited imaging is retained. Experimentally, an extension of more than two orders of magnitude has been achieved.

Extended depth of field

2012
In this thesis the extension of the depth of field of optical systems is investigated. The problem of achieving extended depth of field (EDF) while preserving the transverse resolution is also addressed. A new expression for the transport of intensity equation in the prolate spheroidal coordinates system is derived, with the aim of investigating the ...

Extended Depth of Field in Confocal Microscopy

Biophotonics Congress: Biomedical Optics Congress 2018 (Microscopy/Translational/Brain/OTS), 2018
We present a new type of confocal microscope that simultaneously image a specimen at four different depths, thus providing volumetric imaging at video rate. Our technique is an attractive tool for in vivo high-speed volumetric calcium imaging.

Evaluation of Focus Metrics in Extended Depth-of-field Reconstruction

2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX), 2018
The performance of focus metrics in the evaluation of refocused images from light fields is investigated in this paper. To this aim, the paper presents a comprehensive study on the performance of a large set of different focus metrics (34 in total) in the evaluation of patch-based extended depth-of-field reconstructed images (e.g., all-in-focus).

Polynomial phase masks for extending the depth of field of a microscope

Applied Optics, 2008
A polynomial phase mask is designed and fabricated for enhancing the depth of field of a microscope by more than tenfold. A generic polynomial of degree 31 that consists of 16 odd power terms is optimized by simulated annealing with a realistic average modulation transfer function (MTF) iteratively set as the target MTF.

The influence of chromatic components on extended depth of field imaging

Microscopy Research and Technique, 2009
AbstractThe analysis of variance is one of the most commonly used algorithms for detecting focalized zones in digital images and is an entry point to extended focalization techniques beyond those established by optical laws. This article analyses the dependence of the red, green, and blue (RGB) and lightness, hue, and saturation (LHS) components when ...
