Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 2003In this paper, the theoretical flow ripple of an external gear pump is studied for pumps of similar size using different numbers of teeth on the driving and driven gears. In this work, the flow ripple equation is derived based upon the flow of incompressible fluid across the changing boundaries of a control volume.

Wear, 1994Abstract Wear in external gear pumps, as used in hydraulic systems, is not uniformly distributed over the sliding surfaces. It is confirmed that wear occurs at regions of close clearance. Flow between these surfaces is complex, and existing fundamental wear models are not satisfactory.
