Retelling the Story of the Birds and the Bees in the Age of Biodiversity Extinction

open access: yesLanguages
John Lovejoy coined the term biological diversity in 1980, made the first projection of global extinction rates, and 43 years later we are still discussing biodiversity and extinction in an inconsequential fashion.

Integrated Green Biorefinery for the Production of Anthocyanins, Fermentable Sugars, and High Pure Lignin from Miscanthus × giganteus

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
Integrated production of pigments, fermentation sugars, and pure lignin has been investigated for the creation of profitable biorefinery developments. Choline chloride‐based natural deep eutectic solvents possess unique solvent capabilities to interact with plant cell wall components to disintegrate lignin‐carbohydrate complex.

Mass mortality and extraterrestrial impacts [PDF]

open access: yes
The discovery of iridium enrichment at the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary resulted in formulation of hypothesis of a cometary or asteroid impact as the cause of the biological extinctions at this boundary. Subsequent discoveries of geochemical anomalies at

Circularly Polarized Luminescence Inversion in AIE‐Active Crystal Enabled by Solvent‐Induced Transition Dipole Moment Regulation

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Crystals of chiral AIEgens exhibit achiral solvent‐induced CPL sign inversion with good optical waveguide properties, while the same helical structure and molecular chirality are retained in the crystalline state. Nonbonding interactions between the cocrystallized solvent molecules and AIEgens affect the θμ,m (S1 → S0) of electric and magnetic ...

Biological and cultural diversity in the context of botanic garden conservation strategies

open access: yesPlant Diversity, 2017
Impacts of global climate change, habitat loss, and other environmental changes on the world's biota and peoples continue to increase, especially on islands and in high elevation areas.

Heavy‐Atom‐Induced Narrow Emission in Chalcogen‐Coordinating Lanthanide Cerium(III) Complexes

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
A novel heavy‐atom‐induced narrow emission is observed in luminescent Ce(III) complexes by adopting imidodiphosphinate ligand with different chalcogen‐coordinating sites such as O, S, Se, and Te. In the heaviest Te‐coordinating complex, the full width at half maxima is only 42 nm, which is the narrowest emission band of Ce(III).

Phototherapy via Modulation of β‐Amyloid in Combating Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
This review introduces the light‐regulated Aβ aggregation, highlighting four applications: photodynamic therapy (PDT), photothermal therapy (PTT), photopharmacology, and photobiomodulation (PBM) systems. It also summarizes the current issues and proposes the prospects of photo‐induced modulation of Aβ aggregation and clearance as a therapeutic strategy

New Transparent Rare‐Earth‐Based Hybrid Glasses: Synthesis, Luminescence, and X‐Ray Imaging Application

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
A desolvation method below 140°C was reported for a rapid synthesis of RE(NO3)3(C5H2N4)2 hybrid glasses within an hour. The glasses containing the whole library of rare‐earth ions exhibited a high transparency, which provided an ideal matrix for the energy‐transfer investigation between organic linker and rare‐earth ions.
