Neutrophil extracellular traps in inflammatory disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A novel feature of polymorphonuclear granulocyte (PMN) biology is their ability to generate neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) via a distinct process of cell death termed NETosis.

In vitro and comparative study on the extracellular enzyme activity of molds isolated from keratomycosis and soil [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014
AIM:To isolate and identify the molds involved in mycotic keratitis; to isolate corresponding species from soil samples; to compare the extracellular enzyme activity indices of the molds isolated from keratitis cases and the corresponding soil isolates ...

Impact of Trametes versicolor and Phanerochaete chrysosporium on differential breakdown of pesticide mixtures in soil microcosms at two water potentials and associated respiration and enzyme activity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This study has examined the effect of inoculation of soil microcosms with Trametes versicolor and Phanerochaete chrysosporium on wood chips on differential degradation of pesticides (simazine, trifluralin and dieldrin, 10 mg kg−1 soil) at two water ...

Involvement of N-acylhomoserine Lactones Throughout Plant Infection by Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica (Pectobacterium atrosepticum)

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2004
Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica is responsible for potato blackleg disease in the field and tuber soft rot during crop storage. The process leading to the disease occurs in two phases: a primary invasion step followed by a maceration step. Bacteria-

Substantial Carbohydrate Hydrolase Activities in the Water Column of the Guaymas Basin (Gulf of California)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
The Guaymas Basin spreading center situated in the Gulf of California is characterized by a thick layer of organic-rich sediments that are thermally altered by hydrothermal fluids, thereby providing a bottom water source of dissolved organic carbon (DOC)

Bacillus subtilis Vegetative Catalase Is an Extracellular Enzyme [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1995
Strong catalase activity was secreted by Bacillus subtilis cells during stationary growth phase in rich medium but not in sporulation-inducing medium. N-terminal sequencing indicated that the secreted activity was due to the vegetative catalase KatA, previously considered an endocellular enzyme. Extracellular catalase protected B.

Extracellular Enzyme of Endophytic Fungi Isolated from Ziziphus spina Leaves as Medicinal Plant

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomaterials, 2022
Endophytic fungi live inside plants or any part of them without creating any visible pathogenic signs. Endophytic fungi are found within medicinal plants and have shown strong biologic activity, such as anticancer and antioxidant activities, as well as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
