Compensatory Mitophagy via NEDD4/HIF‐1α/BNIP3 Pathway Restrains EndMT and Renal Allograft Interstitial Fibrosis Induced by TNFα

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The role of TNFα in the process of renal allograft interstitial fibrosis is complex and multifaceted. As it can promote renal allograft interstitial fibrosis by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction and EndMT, and also mediating compensatory mitophagy through the NEDD4–HIF‐1α–BNIP3 pathway, which clears damaged mitochondria and inhibits EndMT, thereby ...

Copper‐Driven Epithelial Barrier Disruption: A Novel Mechanism of COPD Acute Exacerbations Mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a copper‐driven mechanism of COPD acute exacerbations mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A axis. TNF‐α suppresses the copper transporter ATP7A via competitive NF‐κB/CREB1/CBP signaling, resulting in intracellular copper accumulation, mitochondrial oxidative stress, and epithelial barrier disruption.

Respiration in photosynthetic cells

open access: yes, 2005
Respiration in plants, as in all living organisms, is essential to provide metabolic energy and carbon skeletons for growth and maintenance. As such, respiration is an essential component of a plant’s carbon budget. Depending on species and environmental

Plant species richness regulates soil respiration through changes in productivity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Soil respiration is an important pathway of the C cycle. However, it is still poorly understood how changes in plant community diversity can affect this ecosystem process.

Underground Signals: The Ecological Power of Root Volatiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root volatiles mediate rhizosphere chemical communication, shaping interactions among plants, microbes, herbivores, and natural enemies. Their production, transport, and perception underpin ecological adaptation, multitrophic interactions, and plant resilience, offering opportunities for sustainable crop protection, resilient agroecosystems, and ...

Genetically dissecting the electron transport chain of a soil bacterium reveals a generalizable mechanism for biological phenazine-1-carboxylic acid oxidation.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics
The capacity for bacterial extracellular electron transfer via secreted metabolites is widespread in natural, clinical, and industrial environments. Recently, we discovered the biological oxidation of phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (PCA), the first example ...

Changes in soil oxidase activity induced by microbial life history strategies mediate the soil heterotrophic respiration response to drought and nitrogen enrichment

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Drought and nitrogen deposition are two major climate challenges, which can change the soil microbial community composition and ecological strategy and affect soil heterotrophic respiration (Rh).

Endogenous oscillations of electric potential difference in the cambial region of the pine stem. I. General characteristics of the oscillations

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
Extracellular measurements of electric potential difference (PD) in isolated tissue blocks from Scots pine were performed. Endogenous transient PD changes (oscillations) generated exclusively in the cambial region were found.

Interactions Between Day Respiration, Photorespiration, and N and S Assimilation in Leaves

open access: yes, 2019
Respiration of illuminated leaves (day respiration) represents a minor carbon flux as compared to photosynthesis and photorespiration under usual gaseous conditions. However, it is crucial for leaf primary metabolism, since it sustains N assimilation and
