Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Brain endothelium-derived extracellular vesicles containing amyloid-beta induce mitochondrial alterations in neural progenitor cells

open access: yes, 2022
Aim: Elevated brain deposits of amyloid beta (Aβ40) contribute to neuropathology and cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, the role of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) as an interface for the transfer of Aβ40 from the periphery into ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

The Role of the Extracellular Volume of the Infarction Zone and the Remote Myocardium in Predicting Systolic Dysfunction After the First Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background/Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic role of the extracellular volume (ECV) assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in relation to systolic dysfunction and unfavorable remodeling of the left ventricular (LV) at ...

Focal and diffuse myocardial fibrosis both contribute to regional hypoperfusion assessed by post-processing quantitative-perfusion MRI techniques

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
IntroductionIndications for stress-cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) to assess myocardial ischemia and viability are growing. First pass perfusion and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) have limited value in balanced ischemia and diffuse ...

Modeling cell movement in anisotropic and heterogeneous network tissues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cell motion and interaction with the extracellular matrix is studied deriving a kinetic model and considering its diffusive limit. The model takes into account of chemotactic and haptotactic effects, and obtains friction as a result of the interactions ...
