Control of breathing using an extracorporeal membrane lung [PDF]
Various amounts of carbon dioxide were removed through an extracorporeal membrane lung in spontaneously breathing lambs. The decrease in alveolar ventilation was proportional to the fraction of total carbon dioxide removed by the membrane lung.

ABSTRACT A 34‐year‐old woman with severe post‐intubation tracheal stenosis underwent successful tracheal resection under V‐V ECMO, highlighting its utility in high‐risk airway obstruction. Multidisciplinary teamwork and staged anesthetic protocols further improved peri‐operative safety and patient outcomes.
