Morphogenetic functions of extraembryonic membranes in insects [PDF]
Morphogenetic functions of the amnioserosa, the serosa, the amnion, and the yolk sac are reviewed on the basis of recent studies in flies (Drosophila, Megaselia), beetles (Tribolium), and hemipteran bugs (Oncopeltus). Three hypotheses are presented. First, it is suggested that the amnioserosa of Drosophila and the dorsal amnion of other fly species ...

Monotreme development with particular reference to the extraembryonic membranes
AbstractThis paper considers many of the salient features of monotreme development, particularly morphogenesis of the extraembryonic membranes. The uterine endometrium of both monotremes and marsupials exhibits a progesterone driven luteal phase where accelerated utilization of endometrial nutrients is evidenced by a rapid post‐primitive streak ...

Radioautographic studies of DNA synthesis in the developing extraembryonic membranes of the mouse
AbstractTritiated thymidine was injected into pregnant BALB/c mice intravenously at 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 days of pregnancy. Radioautographs were prepared in order to determine the extent of synthesis of DNA in the extraembryonic membranes at the above stages of gestation. The extent of synthesis of DNA was expressed as a radioactive index. The index is

Immunohistology of clotting factor V in human extraembryonic membranes
Blood clotting Factor V was studied on fixed and unfixed cryostat sections of term human placentae, basal plates, amniochorions, and first-trimester placentae by using one- and two-colour immunofluorescence. A monoclonal antibody (GB36) which reacts with cytotrophoblast was used to identify cytotrophoblast.
