Implication of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli siderophore receptors in host pathogen interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The concurrent production of numerous iron compound receptors is a unique feature of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC). This study demonstrates that the salmochelin receptor IroN is involved in invasion of urothelial cells by ExPECs in vitro. IroN was also detected in outer membrane vesicles produced by ExPECs.
