Cisplatin-Based Chemotherapy for Pulmonary Metastasized Germ Cell Tumors of the Testis - Be Aware of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome [PDF]
Background: Cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy is regarded as standard of care for patients with advanced germ cell tumors. In patients with lung metastases and a high tumor load, an association between induction chemotherapy and the development of

Changes in extravascular lung water during venovenous perfusion
The accumulation of extravascular lung water was related to changes in plasma colloid osmotic pressure and pulmonary hydrostatic pressures in 12 normal dogs and 13 dogs that had venovenous perfusion for 2 hours at 45 to 70 ml. per kilogram per minute. The venovenous perfusion system included a membrane oxygenator and a roller pump.

Impact of Endothelial Diversity and Dysfunction on Cardiovascular Disease
The vascular endothelium is highly diverse, regulating permeability, vascular tone, repair, and inter‐organ communication. Endothelial heterogeneity supports tissue‐specific needs, but dysfunction drives cardiovascular disease. Transcriptomics, in vitro models, and redox signaling studies reveal therapeutic targets for precision treatment of ...

Understanding Vasomotion of Lung Microcirculation by In Vivo Imaging
The balance of lung extravascular water depends upon the control of blood flow in the alveolar distribution vessels that feed downstream two districts placed in parallel, the corner vessels and the alveolar septal network. The occurrence of an edemagenic

This study investigated the prognostic value of residual congestion phenotypes at discharge in acute heart failure. Patients with intravascular residual congestion had better diuretic responses and shorter hospital stays than those with tissue/combined residual congestion, but worse outcomes than decongested patients.

Donor lung weight a novel predictor for primary graft dysfunction
Background: Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) remains a leading cause of early morbidity and mortality in lung transplantation. PGD is characterized by diffuse alveolar damage and the accumulation of extravascular lung water in the transplanted lung.

Persistent pulmonary congestion before discharge predicts rehospitalization in heart failure: a lung ultrasound study [PDF]
BACKGROUND: B-lines evaluated by lung ultrasound (LUS) are the sonographic sign of pulmonary congestion, a major predictor of morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure (HF).

Medication Complications in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. [PDF]
The need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy is a marker of disease severity for which multiple medications are required. The therapy causes physiologic changes that impact drug pharmacokinetics.
