Extraventricular neurocytomas (EVNs) are rare neoplasms with many similar morphologic features compared with central neurocytomas. EVNs have been reported in a variety of locations and mainly occur within the cerebral hemispheres. These lesions display wide variability in morphologic features, cellularity, and proliferation rates.

Neurocytic neoplasms usually arise within the lateral ventricles, generally as circumscribed, slowly growing masses curable by total resection. Both subtotal resection and histologic atypia are associated with an increased risk of recurrence. In contrast, neurocytic neoplasms situated within brain parenchyma, so-called "extraventricular neurocytomas ...

Extraventricular neurocytoma, a comprehensive review
Acta Neurochirurgica, 2013Extra ventricular neurocytoms (EVN) are a rare parenchymal brain tumour distinct from central neurocytomas. This review attempts to analyze a series of seven cases of EVN from a single institute against the background of available literature.Retrospective analysis of the clinical manifestation, pathological features, imaging findings, microsurgical ...

Extraventricular neurocytoma of the sellar region
British Journal of Neurosurgery, 2011Extra-ventricular neurocytoma (EVN) is rare, mainly described within the cerebral hemispheres or spinal cord. We report a case of sellar neurocytoma presenting with chiasmal compression.A 50-year-old woman presented with decreasing vision and a bitemporal field deficit.

Pontine Extraventricular Neurocytoma in a Child
Pediatric Neurosurgery, 2012Extraventricular neurocytomas mimic central neurocytomas histologically but are located outside the lateral and/or third ventricles. Pontine neurocytomas represent an extremely rare subset of extraventricular neurocytomas, and reports are limited to 2 adults followed under 28 months.

Central Neurocytoma and Extraventricular Neurocytoma
2009A low-grade (WHO 2007, grade II) ventricular (central neurocytoma) or extraventricular tumor composed of a monomorphic population of uniform round neurocytic cells. More common in the lateral and third ventricles but may occur in the fourth ventricle and extraventricular sites including the cerebral hemispheric parenchyma and spinal cord.

A rare case of extraventricular neurocytoma
Brain Tumor Pathology, 2007We report an unusual case of extraventricular (cerebral) neurocytoma with a long, 25-year history, and which appeared to transform to neuroblastoma. In 1978, an 18-year-old woman was treated for right frontal oligodendroglioma. Eighteen years later (in 1996), recurrence of tumor in the fourth ventricle was noted and was treated with gamma-knife ...

Clinicopathological and genetic characteristics of extraventricular neurocytomas
Neuropathology, 2012Extraventricular neurocytoma (EVN) shares histological features with central neurocytoma, but has a wide morphological spectrum. Little is known regarding its clinicopathologic nature, biological behavior and genetic abnormalities. The aim of this study is to examine the diagnostic criteria, genetic abnormalities and biological behavior of EVN ...

A comparative study of intraventricular central neurocytomas and extraventricular neurocytomas
Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2014Similar histology and clinical behavior of both intraventricular central neurocytomas (CNs) and extraventricular neurocytomas (EVNs) may argue against the idea that EVNs were the distinct entity to distinguish from CNs in the 2007 World Health Organization classification. To explore respective characteristics and compare similarities and differences in

Extraventricular neurocytoma in neurofibromatosis Type 1
Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, 2008Neurocytomas are rare tumors of the central nervous system that are typically located in the ventricular system. The authors report a case of a child with neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) who had a tumor of the optic nerves and chiasm with signal abnormality extending through the diencephalon, as well as an occipital lobe mass, which was presumed to be ...
