The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Quantum Rényi and $f$-divergences from integral representations

open access: yes
Smooth Csiszár $f$-divergences can be expressed as integrals over so-called hockey stick divergences. This motivates a natural quantum generalization in terms of quantum Hockey stick divergences, which we explore here.

Sum decomposition of divergence into three divergences

open access: yes, 2018
Divergence functions play a key role as to measure the discrepancy between two points in the field of machine learning, statistics and signal processing. Well-known divergences are the Bregman divergences, the Jensen divergences and the f-divergences. In

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Delimitation and Phylogeny in Fritillaria Species (Liliaceae) Endemic to Alps

open access: yesBiology
The number of Fritillaria species native to the Alps has long been debated, and observational biases due to the short flowering periods and the scattered distributions of endemic Fritillaria populations along the mountain range have probably made the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Covariant infrared finite amplitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The calculation of observables in gauge theories with massless particles such as QCD - by traditional methods is significantly complicated by the presence of soft and collinear singularities, collectively termed infrared divergences, in the scattering ...

Monotonicity of optimized quantum f-divergence

open access: yesQuantum Information Processing
AbstractOptimized quantumf-divergence was first introduced by Wilde and further explored by Li and Wilde later. Wilde raised the question of whether the monotonicity of optimized quantumf-divergence can be generalized to maps that are not quantum channels.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
