Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

PCDD/F Formation from Heterogeneous Oxidation of Wood Pyrolysates

open access: yesFire Safety Science, 2008
This paper examines the formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) during oxidative pyrolysis of wood. Model lignocellulosic compounds and fractions isolated from wood serve to generate volatiles which then interact with copper-loaded surrogate ash to produce PCDD/F.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Group detection in still images by F-formation modeling: A comparative study [PDF]

open access: yes2013 14th International Workshop on Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services (WIAMIS), 2013
Automatically detecting groups of conversing people has become a hot challenge, although a formal, widely-accepted definition of them is lacking. This gap can be filled by considering the social psychological notion of an F-formation as a loose geometric arrangement. In the literature, two main approaches followed this line, exploiting Hough voting [1]

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Reliability Analysis of Layered Soil Slopes Considering Different Spatial Autocorrelation Structures

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
It is widely recognized that different geological formations often vary differently in space. Therefore, soil properties from different layers should be modeled by different autocorrelation functions (ACFs) to reflect such soil heterogeneity.

The fossil record of ichthyosaurs, completeness metrics and sampling biases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ichthyosaurs were highly successful marine reptiles with an abundant and well-studied fossil record. However, their occurrences through geological time and space are sporadic, and it is important to understand whether times of apparent species richness ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

CurationSpace:Cross-Device Content Curation Using Instrumental Interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
For digital content curation of historical artefacts, curators collaboratively collect, analyze and edit documents, images, and other digital resources in order to display and share new representations of that information to an audience.
