Mortality in functional seizures: Evidence from a large electronic health records dataset

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Several studies have found that people with functional seizures (FS) have increased mortality, approaching that of epilepsy (epileptic seizures [ES]). The small numbers of deaths in these studies make it unclear whether they can be attributed to comorbidities. We used a very large electronic health database to compare mortality in FS

Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors and the risk of late onset epilepsy: A real‐world cohort study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Late onset epilepsy (LOE) is associated with substantial morbidity. Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) may exert neuroprotective effects. This study evaluated the association between SGLT2i and risk of LOE among older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Heparan Sulfate Is a Cellular Receptor for Enteric Human Adenoviruses

open access: yesViruses, 2021
Human adenovirus (HAdV)-F40 and -F41 are leading causes of diarrhea and diarrhea-associated mortality in children under the age of five, but the mechanisms by which they infect host cells are poorly understood.

Alcoholic extracts of Russian sage (Salvia yangii) contain bioactive terpenoids with inhibitory activity against grapevine downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Alcoholic extracts from flowers, leaves, and shoots of Russian sage decreased downy mildew severity on grapevine leaf disks. Fractionation followed by metabolomic analysis revealed putative terpenoids as the main components of the active fractions. Specifically, 7‐methylrosmanol, 12‐O‐methylcarnosic acid, carnosic acid, and carnosol were identified as ...

Electroconvulsive Therapy and Time to Psychiatric Readmission in Schizophrenia

open access: yesActa Psychiatrica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction There is evidence that electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can augment the effects of antipsychotics in schizophrenia. However, there is limited evidence from Western populations on whether ECT reduces the risk of relapse compared to non‐ECT treatment in schizophrenia.

The Optimal Path of Investment, Consumption and Gross National Production: An Application of Generalized Ramsey Model in Economy of Iran [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهشهای اقتصادی, 2013
Ramsey model is one of the most important basic models to study intertemporal resource allocation. This model is derived from microeconomic optimal principle so it has a key role in macroeconomics with micro foundations.

Knock knock, who's there? Identifying wild species‐specific fish sounds with passive acoustic localization and random forest models

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) is a useful non‐destructive tool for evaluating species presence, diversity and abundance. However, in marine environments, a dearth of tools and methods for identifying wild, species‐specific fish calls makes quantitative PAM assessments for specific fish species challenging.

Comparison of the in vitro adhesion of K88, K99, F41 and P987 positive Escherichia coli to intestinal villi of 4- to 5-week-old piglets

open access: yes, 1993
The adhesion of K88ab, K88ac, K88ad, P987, K99, F41 and K99/F41 positive Escherichia coli strains to duodenal, jejunal and ileal villi was studied using an in vitro adhesion assay. The villi were harvested from 4- to 5-week-old pigs.

F41 Antigen as a Virulence Factor in the Infant Mouse Model of Escherichia coli Diarrhoea [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1985
The properties responsible for the virulence in infant mice of the bovine enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli strain B41 were investigated. A B41K99- variant previously found to be nearly as virulent as the original strain B41 (B41K99+) possessed F41 antigen and haemagglutinating properties.

Associations Between Mental Health Conditions and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes Among Active‐Duty Servicewomen

open access: yesPaediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Active‐duty servicewomen (ADSW) are at increased risk for mental health conditions compared to civilian women. Research suggests women with mental health conditions experience serious pregnancy complications at rates 50% higher than those without mental health conditions; yet research in military populations is limited. Objective To
