Photothermal effects in ultra-precisely stabilized tunable microcavities

open access: yes, 2016
We study the mechanical stability of a tunable high-finesse microcavity under ambient conditions and investigate light-induced effects that can both suppress and excite mechanical fluctuations.

Calculating the Fine Structure of a Fabry-Perot Resonator using Spheroidal Wave Functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A new set of vector solutions to Maxwell's equations based on solutions to the wave equation in spheroidal coordinates allows laser beams to be described beyond the paraxial approximation.

Interferometry and Laser Control with Solid Fabry-Perot Etalons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
The use and analysis of solid Fabry-Perot etalons for interferometry and laser control are discussed and supported with experimental data. Low angle scattering is found to be an important factor influencing finesse and peak transmission.

Microwave limb sounder [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Trace gases in the upper atmosphere can be measured by comparing spectral noise content of limb soundings with the spectral noise content of cold space. An offset Cassegrain antenna system and tiltable input mirror alternately look out at the limb and up

Multimode optomechanical system in the quantum regime

open access: yes, 2016
We realise a simple and robust optomechanical system with a multitude of long-lived ($Q>10^7$) mechanical modes in a phononic-bandgap shielded membrane resonator.

Cavity cooling of a nanomechanical resonator by light scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present a novel method for opto-mechanical cooling of sub-wavelength sized nanomechanical resonators. Our scheme uses a high finesse Fabry-Perot cavity of small mode volume, within which the nanoresonator is acting as a position-dependant perturbation

Study Of A Fabry-Perot Resonator

open access: yes, 2013
A laser is essentially an optical oscillator consisting of a resonant cavity, an amplifying medium and a pumping source. In semiconductor diode lasers, the cavity is created by the boundary between the cleaved face of the semiconductor crystal and air, and has reflective properties as a result of the differing refractive indices of the two media. For a

Self‐Hybridized Exciton‐Polariton Photodetectors From Layered Metal‐Organic Chalcogenolates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐hybridized exciton‐polariton photodetectors are demonstrated using high refractive index mithrene, eliminating the need for top mirrors. This simplified architecture enables tunable sub‐bandgap photodetection via lower exciton‐polariton states and enhanced carrier transport through ultrafast polariton group velocities.

High-Q Fabry–Pérot Micro-Cavities for High-Sensitivity Volume Refractometry

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
This work reports a novel structure for a Fabry–Pérot micro cavity that combines the highest reported quality factor for an on-chip Fabry–Pérot resonator that exceeds 9800, and a very high sensitivity for an on-chip volume refractometer based on a Fabry ...

Slow-light plasmonic metamaterial based on dressed-state analog of electromagnetically-induced transparency

open access: yes, 2015
We consider a simple configuration for realizing one-dimensional slow-light metamaterials with large bandwidth-delay products using stub-shaped Fabry-Perot resonators as building blocks.
