Surface quality improvement of AZ31 Mg alloy by a combination of modified Taguchi method and simple multi objective optimization procedure

open access: yesCogent Engineering
The motive of this study is to evaluate the machinability properties of AZ31 Mg alloy in the face milling operations. Depth of cut, rate of feed and speed of cut are three input variables in the face milling process, while surface roughness (Ra) and tool

Tool wear in disk milling grooving of titanium alloy

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2016
The work efficiency of grooving machining can be improved by the approach of disk milling. However, the problem of tool wear was serious because of big milling force and high milling temperature in manufacture process, by which the tool life and the ...

Analytical prediction of stability limit in turning operations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Unstable cutting due to chatter vibrations is one of the most important problems during metal cutting operations. Chatter can be a limitation for productivity and surface quality in turning operations, especially when long and slender tools and parts are

Integration of dynamic behaviour variations in the stability lobes method: 3D lobes construction and application to thin-walled structure milling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Vibratory problems occurring during peripheral milling of thin-walled structures affect the quality of the fin- ished part and, to a lesser extent, the tool life and the spindle life.

Crack‐Growing Interlayer Design for Deep Crack Propagation and Ultrahigh Sensitivity Strain Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A crack‐growing semi‐cured polyimide interlayer enabling deep cracks for ultrahigh sensitivity in low‐strain regimes is presented. The sensor achieves a gauge factor of 100 000 at 2% strain and detects subtle deformations such as nasal breathing, highlighting potential for minimally obstructive biomedical and micromechanical sensing applications ...

Tool Life of PM-HSS Cutting Tools when Milling of Titanium Alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Machining of titanium alloys meets with poor life of a cutting tool. It is caused by a low thermal conductivity and by a high strength-to-weight ratio of the alloys. Various approaches for cost-effective and productive machining titanium alloys are still

Dynamic analysis of runout correction in milling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Tool runout and its effects is an important area of research within modelling, simulation, and control of milling forces. Tool runout causes tool cutting edges to experience uneven forces during milling.

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.
