Circular‐Polarization‐Sensitive Organic Photodetectors with a Chiral Nanopatterned Electrode Inverse‐Designed by Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A chiral photodetector capable of selectively distinguishing left‐ and right‐handed circularly polarized light is experimentally demonstrated. The device, which features a nanopatterned electrode inverse‐designed by a genetic algorithm within a metal–dielectric–metal nanocavity that incorporates a vacuum‐deposited small‐molecule multilayer, exhibits ...

Impact of Nuclear Reaction Uncertainties on AGB Nucleosynthesis Models

open access: yes, 2012
Asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars with low initial mass (1 - 3 Msun) are responsible for the production of neutron-capture elements through the main s-process (main slow neutron capture process).

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Inferring the Coronal Density Irregularity from EUV Spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Understanding the density structure of the solar corona is important for modeling both coronal heating and the solar wind. Direct measurements are difficult because of line-of-sight integration and possible unresolved structures.

A novel missense mutation in the factor XII gene in a litter of cats with factor XII deficiency

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2017
The feline F12 gene was examined to identify a mutation associated with coagulation factor XII (FXII) deficiency in a litter of 6 cats, including 2 cats with severely reduced FXII activity (7.1 and 9.3%, respectively) and 4 cats with moderately reduced FXII activity (range 36.0 to 46.3%). Cats with severely reduced FXII activity were homozygous for a G

Factor XII truncation accelerates activation in solution

open access: yesJournal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2018
Essentials During contact system activation, factor XII is progressively cleaved by plasma kallikrein. We investigated the role of factor XII truncation in biochemical studies.

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Establishing the reference intervals of plasma PLG, FXII activity, and FXIII antigen in healthy adults in Guangzhou

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Objective To establish the reference intervals of plasma Plasminogen, Factor XII activity, and Factor XIII Antigen in healthy adults in Guangzhou. Methods A total of 168 young people (75 males and 93 females, aged 18–65 years) who underwent physical ...

Flows and Non-thermal Velocities in Solar Active Regions Observed with the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer on Hinode: A Tracer of Active Region Sources of Heliospheric Magnetic Fields?

open access: yes, 2008
From Doppler velocity maps of active regions constructed from spectra obtained by the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on the Hinode spacecraft we observe large areas of outflow (20-50 km/s) that can persist for at least a day.

IRIS observations of magnetic interactions in the solar atmosphere between pre-existing and emerging magnetic fields. II. UV emission properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Multi-wavelength ultraviolet (UV) observations by the IRIS satellite in active region NOAA 12529 have recently pointed out the presence of long-lasting brightenings, akin to UV bursts, and simultaneous plasma ejections occurring in the upper chromosphere
