Anaerobic dechlorination and degradation of hexachlorocyclohexane isomers by anaerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria

Archives of Microbiology, 1977
Screening studies with strict and facultative anaerobic bacteria showed that Clostridium app. and several other representatives of Bacillaceae and Enterobacteriaceae actively degraded gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (gamma-HCH) under anaerobic conditions. Representatives of Lactobacillaceae and Propronibacterium were inactive.

Degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons by facultative anaerobic bacteria under aerobic and anaerobic conditions

Process Biochemistry, 2000
Abstract Nitrate-reducing bacterial strains ( Pseudomonas sp. BS2201, BS2203 and Brevibacillus sp. BS2202) isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil were capable of degrading petroleum hydrocarbons under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Under aerobic conditions (a 10-day experiment in liquid media) the strains degraded 20–25% of the total ...

Enrichment culture studies on aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria found in anaerobic digesters

Water Research, 1967
Abstract Enrichment culture studies were undertaken to determine which aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria participate in anaerobic digestion, in the degradation of cellulose, starch, casein, peptone and sunflower oil. Each carbon source stimulated the development of a typical bacterial population.

Facultative or obligate anaerobic bacteria have the potential for multimodality therapy of solid tumours

European Journal of Cancer, 2007
Recent understanding of the unique pathology of solid tumours has shed light on the difficult and disappointing nature of their clinical treatment. All solid tumours undergo angiogenesis that results in biological changes and adaptive metabolisms, i.e. formation of defective vessels, appearance of hypoxic areas, and emergence of an heterogeneous tumour

Aerobic and Facultatively Anaerobic Bacteria

1981
Bacteria are identified whenever their presence is considered clinically significant. Isolates, therefore, from normally sterile sites require identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Those without recognized clinical importance from sites normally harboring indigenous flora (Table 1–1) seldom require identification.

Chemical Constituents of Halophilic Facultatively Anaerobic Bacteria, 1

Journal of Natural Products, 1995
Two new nitrotyramine derivatives, 1 and 2, along with five known aromatic compounds, were isolated from the culture broth of a facultatively anaerobic, halophilic bacterium isolated from a sediment from the Great Salt Plains, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma.

Oxygen regulated gene expression in facultatively anaerobic bacteria

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1994
In facultatively anaerobic bacteria such as Escherichia coli, oxygen and other electron acceptors fundamentally influence catabolic and anabolic pathways. E. coli is able to grow aerobically by respiration and in the absence of O2 by anaerobic respiration with nitrate, nitrite, fumarate, dimethylsulfoxide and trimethylamine N-oxide as acceptors or by ...

Facultatively anaerobic nitrogen-fixing bacteria from the marine environment

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1974
Anaerobic nitrogen fixation in the dark was determined in a natural marine community, developed in a laboratory model ecosystem, at the Oregon State University Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. Fixation occurred at a rate of 10 nmol C2H4/cm2 per 24 hours.

Chapter 6 Oil Displacement by Anaerobic and Facultatively Anaerobic Bacteria

1989
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses oil displacement by anaerobic and facultatively anaerobic bacteria. It is considered that isolation of organisms such as certain species of clostridium from nature that have attributes considered beneficial or essential to the process.

Biodegradation of estrogens by facultative anaerobic iron-reducing bacteria

Process Biochemistry, 2010
Abstract Natural estrogens such as estrone, 17β-estradiol, estriol, and the synthetic component of contraceptive pills, 17α-ethinylestradiol, enter the municipal wastewater treatment plant via human excretions. A significant portion of these substances is found to remain in reject water produced after anaerobic digestion of activated sludge.
