The failure of failures in a paradigm for asynchronous communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
We develop a general framework for a variety of concurrent languages all based on asynchronous communication, like data flow, concurrent logic, concurrent constraint languages and CSP with asynchronous channels. The main characteristic of these languages is that processes interact by reading and modifying the state of some common data structure.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Association between self-reported and objectively assessed physical functioning in the general population

open access: yesScientific Reports
Knowledge about a patient’s physical fitness can aid in medical decision-making, but objective assessment can be challenging and time-consuming. We aimed to investigate the concordance of self-reported health status and physical functioning with the 6 ...

The role of the gut microbiome in sex differences in arterial pressure

open access: yesBiology of Sex Differences, 2019
There has been intense interest in the role of the gut microbiome in human health and a broad range of diseases in recent years. In the context of cardiovascular disease, gut dysbiosis (defined as a change in the gut microbiome and the gut-epithelial ...

Aggregate economy risk and company failure: An examination of UK quoted firms in the early 1990s [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Considerable attention has been directed in the recent finance and economics literature to issues concerning the effects on company failure risk of changes in the macroeconomic environment.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Can Market Failure Cause Political Failure? [PDF]

open access: yes
We study how inefficiencies of market failure may be further amplified by political choices made by interest groups created in the inefficient market.

Submarine slope failure offshore Uruguay - first results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
New geophysical acquired during cruise M78 with RV “Meteor” in 2009 reveal a large-scale slope failure complex. Positioned between 1800 and 3300 m water depth, the slope failure affected an area of at least 1200 km2.
