A model for cascading failures with the probability of failure described as a logistic function [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
AbstractIn most cascading failure models in networks, overloaded nodes are assumed to fail and are removed from the network. However, this is not always the case due to network mitigation measures. Considering the effects of these mitigating measures, we propose a new cascading failure model that describes the probability that an overloaded node fails ...

Failure Probability Estimation Using Asymptotic Sampling and Its Dependence upon the Selected Sampling Scheme

open access: yesTransactions of the VŠB: Technical University of Ostrava, Civil Engineering Series, 2017
The article examines the use of Asymptotic Sampling (AS) for the estimation of failure probability. The AS algorithm requires samples of multidimensional Gaussian random vectors, which may be obtained by many alternative means that influence the ...

Government policy and the probability of coordination failures [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Economic Review, 2005
This paper introduces an approach to the study of optimal government policy in economies characterized by a coordination problem and multiple equilibria. Such models are often criticized as not being useful for policy analysis because they fail to assign a unique prediction to each possible policy choice.

A CALCULATION METHOD OF EQUIVALENT FAILURE RATE OF VALVE CONSIDERING THE INFLUENCE OF NON-CRITICAL STATE

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2020
The present method of calculating equivalent failure probability did not take into account the influence of noncritical state of components on the reliability of valve system, which leads to insufficient reliability evaluation results.

Point process approach to modeling and analysis of general cascading failure models

open access: yes, 2017
A cascading failure is a failure in a system of interconnected parts in which the failure of a part can trigger the failure of successive parts. Although an initial and introductory approach for probabilistic modeling and analysis of the cascading ...

Analytical method of incorporating failure probability to predict the fatigue life of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC)

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment
This study predicted the fatigue life (N) of UHPC incorporated with different volume fractions (Vf = 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) of steel fiber under flexural cyclic loading at various stress levels (S).

Machine learning-based improved method for estimating long-term failure probability with high efficiency of bank slope

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Affected by water level and rainfall, the failure probability of bank slope is of great time-dependent characteristics. Combining the random field theory with Monte Carlo simulation strategy to calculate long-term failure probability is a time-consuming ...

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Fatigue Damage Prognosis Method for Main Girders of Cable-Stayed Bridges Based on Wavelet Neural Network

open access: yesBuildings
At present, the research on bridge structure health monitoring mainly focuses on discovering existing structural damage and less on predicting when the damage will occur in the future.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
