Dynamics of falling liquid films
The European Physical Journal E, 2014Falling liquid films are examples of open flows which undergo a sequence of supercritical instabilities giving way to a spatio-temporal weak disorder organized around interfacial waves in interaction. The long-wave nature of the waves and the laminar state of the flow enable to derive reduced sets of equations or models that are amenable to thorough ...

Falling films on flexible inclines
Physical Review E, 2007The nonlinear stability and dynamic behavior of falling fluid films is studied for flow over a flexible substrate. We use asymptotic methods to deduce governing equations valid in various limits. Long-wave theory is used to derive Benney-like coupled equations for the film thickness and substrate deflection.

Falling films and the Marangoni effect
Physical Review E, 2004The instability of a falling liquid film of an aqueous surfactant solution along a vertical slope with surfactant adsorption-desorption at its open surface originating surface stresses (Marangoni effect) is investigated. The diffusion of surfactant to the film surface from the bulk and desorption of surfactant to the gas phase are taken into account ...

NMR Velocimetry of Falling Liquid Films
Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2002First results on NMR velocimetry of falling liquid films are presented. A film of average thickness 1 mm and width 40 mm is sustained by a continuous flow of silicon oil over a vertical plate made from PMMA. The spatial distribution of velocities is measured using a double spin--echo imaging pulse sequence supplemented by a bipolar velocity encoding ...

A Falling-Film Evaporator with Film Promoters
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2004Falling-film evaporators have been used extensively in chemical processing plants due to their minimal fluid residence time and high heat transfer rates with low temperature differences. A cheaper alternative for achieving suitable liquid distribution and film stability was investigated here for solutions with low solids content and sufficiently low ...

Desalination and Water Treatment, 2014
AbstractHorizontal-tube falling film technology is widely used in multi-effect desalination plant. The film characteristics of falling water film outside the tubes in horizontal-tube falling film evaporator were simulated. The numerical result was compared with the experimental result and they were proven with good agreement.
