Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Falling Film Evaporator: Drying of Ionic Liquids with Low Thermal Stress

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2012
The removal of water from an aqueous ionic liquid (IL) water solution is a new application for falling film evaporators (FFE). As FFE are able to operate at conditions with small thermal gradient and small residence time in the heated zone, the resulting

Thermodynamic analysis in laminar falling film evaporator

open access: yesApplied Thermal Engineering, 2022
International audience ; An evaporative laminar falling film flowing by gravity on a vertical plate heated by a heat transfer fluid is studied to determine the local temperature, entropy generation and evaporated mass flow, assuming constant saturation pressure at the free interface, in co-current and counter-current configurations.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Distribution of heat transfer coefficient in the vertical tube of falling film evaporator treating saline wastewater based on micro flow and experimental verification

open access: yesWater Reuse, 2021
It is still one of the significant solutions to treat saline wastewater with thermal desalination technology, especially falling film evaporators. To improve the performance of the falling film evaporator, a numerical study on the gas–liquid two-phase ...

Modelling of a falling-film evaporator for adsorption chillers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Refrigeration, 2023
The objective of the present study was to develop a dynamic model to simulate a prototype falling-film evap-orator that is part of a single-bed adsorption chiller test bench located at the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano. The model is based on the evaporator energy and mass balances and was calibrated and validated using experimental ...

Enhancement of absorption efficiency for a laminar film flow by hydrodynamic conditions generated by a new type of column wall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Anumerical model is developed to quantify the effects of hydrodynamics on heat and mass transfer during an absorption, for a laminar film flowing over awavywall column. First of all, the modelling is written for a singlewave of thewall shape.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Drying and cracking mechanisms in a starch slurry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Starch-water slurries are commonly used to study fracture dynamics. Drying starch-cakes benefit from being simple, economical, and reproducible systems, and have been used to model desiccation fracture in soils, thin film fracture in paint, and columnar ...
