Examples violating Golyshev's canonical strip hypotheses
We give the first examples of smooth Fano and Calabi-Yau varieties violating the (narrow) canonical strip hypothesis, which concerns the location of the roots of Hilbert polynomials of polarised varieties.

This review summarizes recent progress in meta‐photonics with a focus on bound states in the continuum (BICs) as a powerful platform for light confinement and control. It covers fundamental concepts, design strategies across optical regimes, symmetry breaking for practical quasi‐BICs, tunable and AI‐assisted BIC devices, and emerging applications in ...

Rigorous Electromagnetic Quasinormal‐Mode Method Made Easy for Users
We present a method that combines numerical techniques with accurate approximations to enable simple and ultrafast computations of the scattered field based on quasinormal modes expansions. The method is made available in the open‐source package MANlite implemented within COMSOL.

Ultralow‐Backscattering Induced Mode Splitting in Chipscale Valley Photonic Topological Cavities
The proposed in‐situ metrology based on mode splitting quantifies the ultralow backscattering of topological valley edge states at a single sharp corner, demonstrating near‐lossless topological transport (0.09 dB/corner) on a silicon chip. This work provides insight into the robustness of the photonic valley system and shows the great potential of ...

A horospherical variety is a normal algebraic variety where a reductive algebraic group acts with an open orbit which is a torus bundle over a flag variety. For example, toric varieties and flag varieties are horospherical. In this paper, we classify Fano horospherical varieties in terms of certain rational polytopes that generalize the reflexive ...

Spherical blow-ups of Grassmannians and Mori Dream Spaces
In this paper we classify weak Fano varieties that can be obtained by blowing-up general points in prime Fano varieties. We also classify spherical blow-ups of Grassmannians in general points, and we compute their effective cone.

Benthic megafauna and the functioning of macroalgal forests and urchin barrens
Two temperate rocky reef food‐web models, representing the trophic diversity of the Mediterranean rocky reef communities, were built for the two stable states: macroalgal forests and barren grounds, which are characterized by opposite amounts of erect macroalgal biomass.
