Comparison of Fas(Apo-1/CD95)- and perforin-mediated cytotoxicity in primary T lymphocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cytolytic T lymphocytes kill target cells by two independent cytolytic mechanisms. One pathway depends on the polarized secretion of granule-stored proteins including perform and granzymes, causing target cell death through membrane and DNA damage.

Diminazene Aceturate Ameliorates Hypertension‐Induced Cognitive Impairment by Disrupting the CCN1–Integrin αvβ6–TGF‐β Axis and Preserving Mitochondrial Integrity

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
Hypertension drives cognitive decline through a previously unrecognized CCN1–integrin αvβ6–TGF‐β signaling axis that culminates in mitochondrial dysfunction and hippocampal neuronal injury. In this pathway, angiotensin II induces CCN1 upregulation, which activates αvβ6 integrin‐mediated release of latent TGF‐β, triggering SMAD2/3 phosphorylation and ...

Efficacy of targeted FasL in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Therapy, 2003
We have successfully achieved selective gene expression in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by exploiting the presence of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), utilizing a transcriptional targeting strategy (J. H. Li et al., 2002, Cancer Res. 62: 171). Building on this platform, we have generated a novel DeltaE1 adenoviral vector mediating the expression ...

Cytokine‐Engineered Chimeric Antigen Receptor‐T Cell Therapy: How to Balance the Efficacy and Toxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 14, 9 March 2026.
Cytokine‐engineered CAR‐T cells represent a promising immunotherapy against malignancies due to direct tumor killing and potent immunity response. However, significant toxicities, including CRS and ICANS, have restricted clinical applications. How to keep the risk‐benefit balance of the advanced therapy is of great importance for maximizing the benefit

Engineered CAR‐NKT Extracellular Vesicles Suppress Tumor Progression and Enhance Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
TM4SF1‐nanobody engineered CAR‐natural killer T–derived extracellular vesicles (CARTM4SF1‐EVs) provide a cell‐free alternative to CAR‐NKT therapy, achieving potent, targeted antitumor activity with reduced toxicity. CARTM4SF1‐EVs induce immunogenic cell death, remodel the tumor microenvironment, and enhance CD8⁺ T‐cell antitumor immunity.

Gamma Irradiation of Poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) Scaffolds Reduces the Mechanical Stability and Function of Islet Grafts in Diabetic Nonhuman Primates

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 3, Page 742-751, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Clinical islet transplantation has long been investigated as a potential cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D), yet standard intrahepatic delivery leaves islets prone to an instant blood‐mediated inflammatory response. Herein, we investigated the design of microporous poly(D,l‐lactide‐co‐glycolide) (PLG) scaffolds for extrahepatic islet ...

D4F alleviates macrophage-derived foam cell apoptosis by inhibiting the NF-κB-dependent Fas/FasL pathway

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
This study was designed to explore the protective effect of D4F, an apolipoprotein A-I mimetic peptide, on nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-dependent Fas/Fas ligand (FasL) pathway-mediated apoptosis in macrophages induced by oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-

Genetic Alterations Involved in Immune Escape Mechanisms of Circulating Tumour Cells in Colorectal Carcinogenesis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT In colorectal cancer (CRC), circulating tumour cells (CTCs) employ genetic alterations to dodge the body's immune system. These alterations occur in specific “driver” genes, including KRAS, BRAF, p53, MYC, APC and PTEN. Changes in these genes can control how the tumour interacts with the immune system and influence the expression of immune ...

Cellular Immune Response Induced by mRNA Vaccines Against SARS‐CoV‐2

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccine induces cellular immune response. T‐cells play a protective role for COVID‐19. ABSTRACT The disease caused by SARS‐CoV‐2 is known as COVID‐19, and it can range from mild symptoms to severe clinical manifestations, including respiratory failure, pneumonia, and organ failure. Since its emergence in 2019, more than 7 million deaths have
