Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Spatial frequency information modulates response inhibition and decision-making processes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We interact with the world through the assessment of available, but sometimes imperfect, sensory information. However, little is known about how variance in the quality of sensory information affects the regulation of controlled actions.

Magnetic incommensurability in $p$-type cuprate perovskites

open access: yes, 2011
For the superconducting phase with a d-wave order parameter and zero temperature the magnetic susceptibility of the t-J model is calculated using the Mori projection operator technique. Conditions for the appearance of an incommensurate magnetic response

Performance-Aware Control of Modular Batteries for Fast Frequency Response

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy
Modular batteries can be aggregated to deliver frequency regulation services for power grids. Although utilizing the idle capacity of battery modules is financially attractive, it remains challenging to consider the heterogeneous module-level characteristics such as dynamic operational efficiencies and battery degradation.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Female remating in Drosophila ananassae: bidirectional selection for remating speed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
In Drosophila ananassae, artificial selection was carried out for fast and slow remating speed for 10 generations. Response to selection resulted in rapid divergence in remating time in each of two replicates of both fast and slow lines.

Universal fractional-order design of linear phase lead compensation multirate repetitive control for PWM inverters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Repetitive control (RC) with linear phase lead compensation provides a simple but very effective control solution for any periodic signal with a known period.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Fast Frequency Sweep Technique Based on Segmentation for the Acceleration of the Electromagnetic Analysis of Microwave Devices

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The characterization of communication devices in a certain frequency band can be accelerated if a fast frequency sweep technique is used instead of a discrete frequency sweep.

Market-based Control of Air-Conditioning Loads with Switching Constraints for Providing Ancillary Services

open access: yes, 2018
Air-conditioning loads (ACLs) are among the most promising demand side resources for their thermal storage capacity and fast response potential. This paper adopts the principle of market-based control (MBC) for the ACLs to participate in the ancillary ...
