Fast Marching Methods

2004
The fast marching method was introduced by Sethian [190, 191, 192] as a computationally efficient solution to eikonal equations on flat domains. A related method was presented by Tsitsiklis in [205]. The fast marching method was extended to triangulated surfaces by Kimmel and Sethian in [112].

Robust skeletonization using the fast marching method

IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2005, 2005
We have recently developed a level set based-framework for computing medial curves or curve skeletons CS for arbitrary 2D shapes as well as tubular and articulated 3D objects. The proposed framework is robust, fully automatic, computationally efficient, and produces curve skeletons that are connected, centered, thin, and less sensitive to boundary ...

Kinesthetic teaching via Fast Marching Square

2012 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2012
This paper presents a novel robotic learning technique based on Fast Marching Square (FM2). This method, which we have called FM Learning, is based on incorporating previous experience to the path planning system of the robot by taking into account paths taught to the robot via kinesthetic teaching, this is, guiding manually the robot through the ...

Fast marching the global minimum of active contours

Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2002
A new approach of edge integration for shape modeling is presented. It is used to find the global minimum of an active contour model's energy between two points. Initialization is made easier and the curve is not trapped at a local minimum by spurious edges.

Fast Path Re-planning Based on Fast Marching and Level Sets

Journal of Intelligent & Robotic Systems, 2012
We investigate path planning algorithms that are based on level set methods for applications in which the environment is static, but where an a priori map is inaccurate and the environment is sensed in real-time. Our principal contribution is not a new path planning algorithm, but rather a formal analysis of path planning algorithms based on level set ...

Symmetric Fast Marching Schemes for Better Numerical Isotropy

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2013
Existing fast marching methods solve the Eikonal equation using a continuous (first-order) model to estimate the accumulated cost, but a discontinuous (zero-order) model for the traveling cost at each grid point. As a result the estimate of the accumulated cost (calculated numerically) at a given point will vary based on the direction of the arriving ...

Fast Marching 3D Reconstruction of Interphase Chromosomes

2004
Reliable 3D reconstruction of interphase chromosomes imaged using confocal microscopy is an important task in cell biology. Computer model of chromosome territories enables performing necessary measurements and consequently making morphological studies.

Shape Recognition by Voting on Fast Marching Iterations

2009
In this study, we present a Fast Marching (FM) - Shape Description integrated methodology that is capable both extracting object boundaries and recognizing shapes. A new speed formula is proposed, and the local front stopping algorithm in [1] is enhanced to freeze the active contour near real object boundaries.
