Study on crack propagation of 42CrMo
For the fatigue failure of 42CrMo, the tensile test was performed on the CT specimen at different load ratios using a fatigue tensile tester. Data on the fatigue crack growth rate of the material and the crack tip factor were obtained.

Numerical Investigation of Fatigue Crack Propagation Behaviour of 550E High-Performance Steel
The fatigue crack propagation behaviour of Q550E high-performance steel (HPS) is studied in this paper. Static tensile testing and fatigue crack propagation testing were carried out, and the results were compared with those of Q235. Finite element models

An inverse method for evaluating weld residual stresses via fatigue crack growth test data [PDF]
This paper presents an inverse method for calculating the thermal residual stresses in welded specimens via measured fatigue crack growth rates. Firstly, fracture-mechanics superposition law has been used to extract the stress intensity factor due to ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Effect of laser surface remelting on the fatigue crack propagation rate of 40Cr steel
In the present work, quenched and tempered 40Cr steel was treated by laser surface remelting, followed by microstructure evolution, hardness, residual stress field and external morphology investigation to understand the effect of laser surface remelting ...

A fatigue multi-site cracks model using coalescence, short and long crack growth laws, for anodized aluminum alloys [PDF]
It has been shown that decrease of the fatigue life of aluminium alloys treated with anodization can be explained by the degradation of surface condition due to pickling.

A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Evaluation of the intrinsic crack growth rates of weld joints [PDF]
A method is presented for evaluating weld intrinsic fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) by excluding the influence of residual stresses. The method is potentially useful for predicting crack growth lives of structural components using measured FCGR data ...
