Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Differentiation of fractionated components of lard from other animal fats using different analytical techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A study was conducted to differentiate fractionated components of lard namely lard olein (LO) and lard stearin (LS) from other common animal fats. Lard fractions and animal fats were analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), elemental ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

New trends in determining the authenticity of corn oil

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1999
HPLC analysis of triacylglycerols and minor components, such as free and acylated sterols, and sterylglycosides, tocopherols and ¡soprenoid alcohols, have been employed for establishing oil authenticity.

Food intake of European adolescents in the light of different food-based dietary guidelines : results of the HELENA (Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence) study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Objective: Since inadequate food consumption patterns during adolescence are not only linked with the occurrence of obesity in youth but also with the subsequent risk of developing diseases in adulthood, the establishment and maintenance of a healthy ...

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Physicochemical characteristics and oxidative stability of Egyptian corn germ oil produced by aqueous enzymatic extraction

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2018
The physicochemical properties and the oxidative stability of Egyptian corn germ oil produced by aqueous enzymatic extraction using fungal cellulase, bacterial and bovine proteases, either individually or in combination were compared to that extracted by

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.
